Quote:

Florence and the Machine (stylised as Florence + the Machine) are an English indie pop band, consisting of lead singer Florence Welch and a collaboration of other artists who provide backing music. The band's music received praise across the music media, especially from the BBC, before they gained mainstream success. Specifically, the BBC played a large part in their rise to prominence by promoting Florence and the Machine as part of BBC Introducing.

The band's debut album, Lungs, was released on 6 July 2009, and held the number-two position for its first five weeks on the UK Albums Chart. On 17 January 2010, the album reached the top position, after being on the chart for twenty-eight consecutive weeks. As of October 2010, the album had been in the top forty in the United Kingdom for sixty-five consecutive weeks, making it one of the best-selling albums of 2009 and 2010. The group's second studio album, Ceremonials, released in October 2011, debuted at number one in the UK and number six in the US.

Florence and the Machine's sound has been described as a combination of various genres, including rock and soul. Lungs won the MasterCard British Album award at the 2010 BRIT Awards. At the 53rd Grammy Awards, Florence and the Machine were nominated for Best New Artist. Additionally, the band performed at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, and the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Concert.

I first heard her on the Colbert Report performing Dogs Day Are Over and I instantly fell in love. :luv2 Her voice is absolutely amazing. I've listened to both albums, but recently I've been favoring Ceremonials. I hope sometime in the future I can see Florence perform live.

After she won the Sound of the BBC poll or whatever, and I heard Lungs, I felt like my world had been rocked...there are so many epic and amazing songs on that album. ('Cosmic Love', anyone?) But I don't think the super long break between albums did her any favors. I was pretty disappointed in Ceremonials, with the exception of the flawless 'Never Let Me Go' and 'What The Water Gave Me'. Hopefully the next material she releases will bring back some of the magic for me. :'(

Finally a poll for this awesomeness. I love Lungs especially for Cosmic Love and Blinding, but Ceremonials blew my mind. Its the epitome of what I look for in music. Full of power, it never stops. Just love it.

omg, how am i supposed to pick?!!! :P

i think both albums are pretty fantastic. Lungs was a super colorful, fun, and diverse album. Ceremonials, however, is a cohesive, heavy, and dark album.

i think i'll go with Ceremonials. "Cosmic Love" is my favoriteeeeee ever ever, but i can listen to Ceremonials in full more, so...

has anyone heard their new song "Breath of Life" for the Snow White & The Huntsman soundtrack? GORGEOUS.

Out of the two, I will always choose Lungs. Lungs is a very magical album. Ceremonials just didn't stick with me like Lungs did...But Only If for a Night is FLAWLESS!

Ceremonials FTW!

"No Light, No Light" is just pure gem! :heart

Lungs for me. That album is perfect. It has so much magic and soul in it. And although I love Ceremonials as well, it never touched me as much as Lungs did.

Lungs is a well-rounded album and it just blew my mind. Cosmic Love is probably one of my favourite songs ever. Ceremonials though fantastic didn't have as much magic as Lungs.

Has to be Ceremonials!

I've fallen in love with Only If For The Night. Absolutely beautiful and haunting track.

Kanzaki 18th May 2012 09:23 PM

I think I like Ceremonials slightly better than Lungs. But Lungs' got some songs that are really, freaking amazing as well.

Acile 18th May 2012 11:18 PM

It's Ceremonials for me, I don't know Lungs well enough. There are a lot of good songs on the former (No Light, No Light; Seven Devils; Spectrum; All This And Heaven Too) and I love Cosmic Love and Howl from the latter, but I didn't get around to buying Lungs and listening to it properly yet.

My recent obsession is Breath of Life though. Beautiful. <3

Couldn't vote in the poll because both albums are absolutely stellar. I love Florence to death. I went and saw her in Chicago last December and am going to see her in Cleveland this July! :D

Saw Florence 2 nights ago in Melbourne, was amazing!!! She said in MC she went to see Nicki Minaj 2 nights before her melbourne show and said she enjoyed it hahaha

amorphose 22nd May 2012 07:01 PM

^That's so awesome!!! I would love to hear Nicki sample a Florence song or for Florence to feature Nicki in one of her songs! Have you guys heard the Kid Cudi x Florence mashup? It's called Falling Star (R3K Remix) and it's freaking amazing.

Maemi 22nd May 2012 07:02 PM

Why is Ceremonials so epic? OMG I love it so much, it's so powerful and amazing and... :cry
