The Has-Beens of the Music scene (and some actors)

I thought this was pretty interesting so I decided to post it!

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/these-...ppearance.html

The only one I dont agree with is:

Quote:

10. Avril Lavigne charges about $250,000.
Lavigne's "Let Go" album was a smash hit back in 2003, while her subsequent albums flopped. Today, Lavigne is working on a comeback record.
I mean really? Were they not there for 'The best Damn thing'? That's like one of her greatest albums and holds her only number 1 single... Girlfriend took the world by storm
I will say that Goodbye Lullaby was a little lack luster though... if they hadnt waited so long... anyways.... :rolleyes.

the rest of the people on there are pretty dull, lol...
and Mr. Britney Spears... lol... he is such a smuck.

Disagree with Moby, Toni Braxton, Orlando Bloom and Keanu...

Avril is a has been, and she had a short expiry date since day 1.

TeamAyu2004 26th November 2012 05:24 AM

Im sure you meant that the other way around since Avril is the only one that pretty much has a career right now.

unless of course you count Toni Braxton breaking into reality tv... which of course is ALL about being a has been. :shrug

=)

^Toni sucks at administrating her money (she bankrupcy like, twice?). Other than that, she has enough sales, hits and awards to be considered one of the greats of a period... She will be remembered.

That is something Avril will never reach.... Avril is just a cute girl manufaturated to be some kind of "punk pop rebel" Britney Spears... The act was going to get old sooner or later.

Surprisingly, she does still seem to have some fans for whatever reason. Some.

Andrenekoi 26th November 2012 03:00 PM

^Well, there are tons of has been musicians who actually have a fanbase... It's just a smaller one that can't actually give them any hits... I just can't see Avril appealing to the teenagers/kids like she did in the begining, and she always failed to appeal to the adults...
Her fanbase will most likelly be made of adults who got into her when they were teenagers and claim she gave meaning to their lifes or something.

"AVRIL SHOWED ME THAT I DON'T HAVE TO LIKE SOMEONE ELSE'S GIRLFRIEND AND THAT THEY NEED NEW ONES - SHE CHANGED MY LIFE!"

NintendoHTF1242 26th November 2012 03:17 PM

Her music isn't that bad...I like her because she has really beautiful ballads. When You're Gone, Slipped Away, Goodbye, Nobody's Home.

TeamAyu2004 26th November 2012 03:40 PM

Nobodys home is a really good song. :yes
Innocence is amazing too.

Its just you cant really say an album has flopped when it has sold a million + copies.

Chibi-Chan 26th November 2012 03:55 PM

I really like Avril, and I really enjoyed "The Best Damn Thing". I still remember that you couldn't turn on the radio back then without "Hot" or "Girlfriend" being played.

MeltingCORE 28th November 2012 04:48 AM

Sad to see Hilary Duff on there. I understand she isn't relevant anymore but I love her music. She was the first artist I ever loved. Even before Ayu lol.

Delicious n Bold 28th November 2012 04:53 AM

Is this only about western artists?

I was gonna run in here with so many Asian artists.
Hiromi and Crystal kay are safe for now.

Not Fade Away 28th November 2012 05:12 AM

Clay Aiken...lol.

What a mess. What is he even doing anymore?

TeamAyu2004 28th November 2012 05:30 AM

^ he was the lead of Spam-o-lot or something like that... but I think that was a few years ago...

Not Fade Away 28th November 2012 05:37 AM

^Oh I do remember that actually...hmm.

But yeah I wouldn't classify Avril as a has-been.

Kouyou 28th November 2012 06:17 AM

I can think of so many more has-beens than that. Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, the Olsen twins, Christina Aguilera (sorry to any fans)...
I feel like Hilary Duff charges that much just so that people won't hire her, haha. I think she's way more interested in her personal life right now.

TeamAyu2004 28th November 2012 06:27 AM

I didnt even think of the Simpsons, but this list is about the highest priced has beens... lol

I wonder how the others chart...

happiholic★ 28th November 2012 06:47 AM

Some of these people... I guess their period of super-fame is over, but some had a hell of a career with some amazing accomplishments. For those people I think "has-been" is the wrong term.

tokyoxjapanxfan 28th November 2012 09:01 AM

Jessica Simpson may be a "has been" in terms of her music career, but she still makes millions every year from her shoe and clothing lines.

I agree about Hilary. I don't think she truly cares about the entertainment business as much as other Disney stars have/do. Especially now that she has a family. :P I'm sure she's financially stable for the rest of her life, considering she can still get into acting jobs in the future.

koumori 28th November 2012 10:00 AM

Yeah, I don't think the term "has-been" really takes into account their money, or whatever. It's just comparing how much public success/fame they had in the past, and how much coverage they earn now.

I think a lot of these had so much hype at their peak that they probably chose to go under the radar once they had got enough advertising deals etc to ensure money for a long while. Being famous can be tiring, and most of these literally were famous from..their fame. Sure, some of them made some good music and some made average films or whatever, but they weren't especially blessed with obvious talent and I guess they realised that when the haters starting rolling in complaining. ("why are they popular anyway :weep")

As happiholic said, "has-been" isn't the nicest or most accurate term but I get what the article is trying to say. For me, they're pretty much spot on. None of the people on the list seem that interested in continuing the career that made them famous in the past. Not passionately, anyway. It doesn't undermine their past achievements though.

@Avril discussion: I'd agree with it, since the only thing I've read about her in the last two years is her engagement to that Nickleback singer. Lol. She'll always be my guilty karaoke go-to but I don't really think of her as a singer anymore, at least not an active one.
