Haunting songs/singers?

I'm just in such a mood for haunting/melancholy/dark/creepy songs!

An example of haunting would be alan's RED CLIFF, SingerSen's Siren
An example of melancholy would be Chihiro Onitsuka's infection
An example of dark would be RURUTIA's Itoshigo Yo
An example of creepy would be Kanon Wakeshima's Suna no Oshiro

So something along the lines of those songs!
It can be haunting through the melody, lyrics, or vocals :D
Just something that can send chills down your spine!

So yeah...hope you guys can help me out! :shughug

I don't think it has the exact feeling you're describing...but Utada's Take 5 always creeps me out.

yizhihenanjing 18th February 2013 05:55 AM

Brilantte of Ayu is definitely a haunting song :))

pommy48 18th February 2013 05:59 AM

@Polyrhythm: Hmm yeah the ending is a bit...creepy I guess? It gives me the same feeling as Ayu's monochrome the way it randomly cuts off

@yizhihenanjing: Definitely! Any song with a choir is creepy to me :laugh

some of Acid Black Cherry's songs can be quite dark/creepy

songs from his 2012 album such as doomsday clock (hahaha at the title) , Jigsaw Puzzle , his Q.E.D. album such as cord name [JUSTICE] , Tsumi to Batsu ~Kamisama no Alibi~

A few of his singles are also great in a dark/creepy way such as Black Cherry (:heart) , Yasashii Uso , Shoujo no Inori III

Kokia comes to mind

Delicious n Bold 18th February 2013 02:31 PM

Bjork's mutual core comes to mind

aloopy 18th February 2013 04:51 PM

Yep.. I second KOKIA :yes

emi♡ 19th February 2013 01:19 AM

I wish I had more for you, but...I think you know about everyone I know about lol

Maybe you could try audio safari, they're super melancholy and they only have one album http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8DD92F94F416019E

...or Miki Furukawa? She's a little...on the edge of these...sometimes...

I think Eiko Shimamiya has some songs that fit into here, but not everything...

Did you like Waa Wei? But honestly, I don't know much about her music...but she has this one song that is perfect. Reminds me, I need to download her other things.

I also have some...creepy instrumental music...lol Always makes me feel like I'm in a scary movie.

pommy48 19th February 2013 02:14 AM

@Karen: I got most of their albums, so I'll go listen to those songs you recommended!
@setsuka & aloopy: Do you guys have specific songs to recommend? :D
@Delicious: Lol sometimes I think Bjork is a bit too out there for me to handle :laugh
@emi: Argh! I never got around to listening to Waa Wei X__X Which song are you talking about?
And I'll check out the other two!

Recommend those instrumentals too please! :shughug

Anything by Aghiatrias is really creepy.

As for more listenable music, Shiina Ringo's Shuukyou comes to mind as a bit creepy.

And it's not really music, just some of the recordings are melodies, but The Conet Project creeps me out too.

Oh, and BORDERLINE by Onitsuka Chihiro gives me shivers, especially towards the end. <3

I would say an example of a haunting song would be "still doll" by Kanon Wakeshima and I guess Kalafina's "Magia" would be kind of creepy. ^^;

emi♡ 19th February 2013 07:18 AM

ahh okay! :D

and, Jambinai, instrumentals

Oh, and this is random, but you might like the soundtrack with all of this melancholy around, if you don't know it already~

KarenPang 19th February 2013 03:23 PM

I find kanonxkanon's Umigame Soup somewhat creepy :x . It's the 2nd B-side in their debut single Calendula Requiem

Mirrorcle Monster 19th February 2013 04:02 PM

Melancholy = Mika Nakashima's Hitori
Haunting = Mika Nakashima's Oborozukiyo~Inori~ (specially the ending OMG)

"KARMA" and the two Ar tonolico songs ("EXEC_REBIRTHA=PROTOCOL/." and "EXEC_COSMOFLIPS/." are kind of .. out there I guess?

"moment ~今を生きる~" is my personal favorite KOKIA song, while not creepy or anything, it is hauntingly beautiful :P

I have a dark R&B singer I listen to whom I really like, but she's American. Half white, half black, not at all Asian :laugh

Who is it? I'm curious

OLIVIA has many dark and melancholic songs. I love the B-side of Sailing free called Love, Love, Love. a little pain, Collecting Sparkles, Starless Night, Dreamcatcher, Shadow Of Love, Winter Sleep.
She is one of my favourite artists. I made a post with her discography I don't know if the links are still up but go check (see my signature). You should check all her songs, specially after 2001.

A movie character from All About Lily Chou Chou called Lily Chou Chou (sang by Salyu) has many dark-melancholy songs.

Chihiro Onitsuka has tons: Borderline, Innocence, Bokura Barairo no Hibi, Watashi to Waltz, Rasen, etc.

BONNIE PINK also has some melancholy songs: Cotton Candy, Water Me, Last Kiss, Ocean, Bedtime Story.

Now I'm addicted to NIKIIE. On her last album, Equal, she has one song that I love and it's melancholic. It's mannequin.

Another song that I love specially the piano is from HY, called 366-nichi.

Chara also has some: kiss, Swallowtail Butterfly ~Ai no Uta~, Niji wo Wataru Heiwa ga Kita, etc.

I am addicted to a new indie duo called Haruka to Miyuki. They have a song I found on Youtube called Vanilla. I really like it.

moumoon also has some melancholic-type songs: Doko e mo Ikanai yo, Aoi Tsuki to Ambivalence na Ai, Blue Rain, Destiny, etc.

Her name is Tinashe. I would recommend the song Reverie to get an idea of her sound.
