What do you think about Ayu 's changes ?

As You know, In 2 years (2012-2013), The voice of Ayu has changed and now her fame is not as same as the last decade. I can realize that her voice began to change in 2008 , went on in 2010 and 2012. It got rough, didn't it ?
After A best live, I think she cant sing some of her famous songs such as M, evolution, Blue birds well like the past. The main reason is the changing from clear and high voice into the rough one as I think . She can just do it with the emotion and receive the support of her fans. In the other hands, She can sing well now on "You &me" ,"Love Song" "Wake me Up", "Missing" (the strong songs ),...
What do you think about her voice in the past and now ?
I prefer her voice today ! How 's about you ?

I like her voice through most eras in terms of studio recordings.

In terms of lives, 2003-2006 was the best vocally. Even now, her voice isn't 'great'. It's tolerable now, unlike 2007-2010 where it was very difficult to listen to certain songs live. So, she's improved, but she's past her prime vocally I think.

Performance wise, she's getting better though, which I think compensates. :)

Ayu's glorious so called golden era has ended a long time ago, we ought to bear that in mind. However, it still is fun listening to her new music.

I am missing her bright voice from "A Song for XX" till "Secret", though.

truehappiness 8th November 2013 06:36 AM

I like her voice now. It's a bit less "singing through her eyeballs". Though her 'sound' was the best from 2003-2006 up until post-Secret.

kaito_moonlove 8th November 2013 07:23 AM

You are true! Her voice now isn't clear but it's truly strong. I love her in Tour Secret and in 2011. She is the princess in "Secret" and the queen in 2011 ! :D

i love her current vocal, i don't rly like her debut vocal~ way too squeaky for me. her vocal now has much more emotions and very powerful.

I do like her voice these days quite a lot, but from 2007-2009 I really hated it. She didn't sound like herself at all anymore, but I'm glad that in 2010 she started to sound so much better, and from 2011 onwards it has been lovely to listen to her lives. :)

But even though I like her voice today, I still prefer her voice between 2002-2006. Those were the times when her vocals were just amazingly mind blowing. I can't even describe how amazed I was. :D I do wish she sounded like she did during those years even though I know she won't. :p

I was singing some Ayu songs at a K-box last week and believe it or not, they are actually easier to sing through the eyeballs (no way to say, carols, love destiny, song 4 u etc). I really much prefer her duty-(m)u voice and absolutely adore those mournful wails she does in songs like endless sorrow.

I slightly prefer her early voice, but that doesn't mean I want her to perform like before! I love her voice right now and, as I said somewhere before, I think the fact she changed her vocals so much makes it double interesting. We have the chance to hear her sing those old songs in new, totally unexpected ways!
And, btw, I think she still rocks that squeaky tone in cute songs!

RAINBOW-A BALLADS-Memorial address eras was when her voice was at her prime.

I do love her voice in BALLAD though.

Yeah, it's a lot easier to sing like that but I think she overdid it in her early years, haha. Especially in 2001....

I prefer the voice she has now. It's stronger. Some of her old songs sound more powerful with her current voice. Moreover she has improved her vocal since 2010. Totally love it.

I like her current voice, but I used to hate her voice of Secret ---> Rock'n'Roll Circus era.

tbh this year she's really improved her singing skills. her voice at July 27th show was brilliant.

Cahz- 8th November 2013 10:26 PM

I like her current voice. As long as we are not getting GUILTY vocals again I'm fine tbh :innocent
About A Best Live performances, I listened to Memorial address live ver and I can imagine the 2003 Ayu singing it the same way. That must tell you something. However, I hate the voice she used in HEAVEN and Who... it's just annoying. That grandma voice must go :o (in video it's not that bad though)

truehappiness 8th November 2013 10:56 PM

She used to sing through her nose a lot for those ballads, so it sounds weird when she uses the husky, yet 'correct' vocal.

tokyoxjapanxfan 9th November 2013 12:33 AM

It's hard for me to say now. We have no tv performances to judge from anymore lol.

There were some eras where her live voice was offfffff

But then there were some where she was really great.

2005 was a good year vocally for her, imo. HEAVEN and fairyland both had fantastic vocals when she performed on TV. Although I remember Pride at FNS being a little pitchy.

Currently I think she's taken a lot more control of her voice. While a nation was no where as perfect as the DVD recording is, it was still pretty good.

ayu-fan 9th November 2013 12:31 PM

I don't think her voice changed that much since 2008. At least it's still listenable. Her Mirrocle World lives were horrific back then though.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 9th November 2013 04:58 PM

I also think the "golden era" ended quite a while back. I still hope and believe that she can make somewhat of a comeback if she plays her cards right.

I love her just as much as I did in the Duty era. Damn that was so long ago! I think (except for the collabs) that her music is still quality and I love everything she releases. Her voice has "evolved" and I love it. It would be so crazy to hear her sing songs like Duty, Naturally, still alone, etc. with today's voice.

As long as she keeps that "ayu factor" in her music, I will love it.

Watching her performances from 2008-2009, she sounded like her voice was struggling to come out, shouting when singing ballads (AT2008), off-key singing. (CDL 09-10).since 2010, her voice has improved a lot, i pretend those mirrorcle world t.v performances never exist cause it sounded like her voice was dying

hidekirby 10th November 2013 12:09 AM

I agree with everything that has been said. Best era vocally wise was 2003-2005. Even if apparently her technique was bad (and that led to her current voice condition).
The 2008-2009 years were a complete mess. I kinda lost hope she could sing properly again.
Then she has improved a lot since 2010. I definitely love her 2003-2005 voice more (I really miss her "Memorial address" clear and soft voice). Her current voice is not bad but it is less gentle and feminine. She is slowly regaining control. Too much screaming and too much husky to my ears even if she is still improving on those issues.
