Did Ayumi get work done in 1999?
 

Something about her face looks very different in A Song For XX era compared to what came afterwards. Is it her lips or something else? Anyone else think the same?

We don't know for sure. Some people insist that she did, others think it's not. I wouldn't be surprised if she had something minor done, but I honestly don't think that she did.

She's definitely gotten veneers done over the years--you'd be amazed at how much just that can make a difference when you're looking at a face. Other than smaller procedures like maybe fillers or botox, I honestly don't think she's gotten anything major done.

I think she hasn't done anything, makeup and grow do much. If I show a picture of me when I was more young, a lot of people would say I got work done.
But I'm pretty sure she has done something in her teeth

She fixed her teeth that's for sure. Other than that I personally don't see that she has work done, prolly like everyone had said it's minor job like botox. Some lipsticks can make your lips bigger because it contains like chili powder or sth someone said, a proper technique can make your lips bigger, and having your eyebrow cleaned or arranged could make difference in one's look as well.

All in all she looks mostly the same when without make up.

Her lips seemed thinner in 1999..could be the veneers..

I believe..she had her first set in the spring of 1999, she then got a bigger set of teeth around 2002/2003? (really noticeable the RAINBOW era because she looked really fake/barbie-ish around that time) and then she got the gap closed in the middle teeth in 2005 during the preparation for Fairyland.

I honestly believe she hasn't got anything done besides her teeth. If she did get more work done I could care less, because it doesn't change her personality or how she makes her music. ^_^

One of my friends put tooth braces for more than a year because her lips were too thin (her teeth were perfectly alligned). Later everyone thought she had a lipjob. There's many ways to change appearance. Surgery is just the fastest one :P

she's got tricks in er make-up routine - overdrawing lips. That happened a lot. and you can clearly see that in Love songs era (still makes me shiver). Her eyes are, well, make up lol eyelashes, liner and lets not forget that good old eyelid tape/glue. There are screencaps from PoM i think where you can clearly see it gone from one eye while the other still holds onto the skin after she cried a ton lol Also lets not frget photoshop as well. Other than that most of the time i see ifferences is in her make up. It's quite obvious in a high resolution pics. The only thing that's really for sure was done is her teeth.
She looks fairly the same as she did back in the day. Though weight change can affect the face as well.

I remember when a couple of years ago I bought a copy of "A Song for XX" and as I was looking through the booklet I found a picture that made me go "hey! Ayu totally looked like that in one of her recent behind-the-scenes pictures". I felt quite convinced then that Ayu hadn't had anything done (aside from the veneers thing) and I still believe that. It's easy to look at her album covers and say "she must have had surgery!" but even things as simple as the haircut, lighting, or angle (not to mention the obvious make-up and photoshop thing) can change the way we perceive someone's face, the part of our brain that recognizes faces can be much more sensitive than we think. Not to mention that things such as lifestyle and age affect your face as well, even when we're "fully grown" (our cells, particularly skin cells, regenerate all the time after all).
So my belief is that the answer would be "no", but I know that there will be people who disagree with that.

Teeth and that surgery to remove under-eyes fat (I don't know the proper name, sorry). Other than that we'll never know, but just those two things complimented by hair change are enough to make a big difference in someone's appearance. The hair alone can make a huge difference, and she went from darker short hair to long and lighter, that's a big change...

Her teeth are still too fake and big for me but if she likes them then great :D At least they're not as fake looking as they were in the RAINBOW era.

the eyebags are still there! Even in the heavily edited pics you can still see them....Actually Japan thinks eyebags are cute and even fakes them with make-up tricks, some people get surgery to GET them rather than remove lol

I believe she only did her teeths and maybe some minor refill operation. I wonder about her boobs tho. They look way bigger now but maybe it is because she gained weight?

I honestly think she's just padding & stuffing her chest because they seem to change size so frequently XD It's NEVER constant from one shoot or video to another. Plus I think if she got them done, a shoot like Bea's Up - where you never really see her chest at all - wouldn't happen, cuz if I spent all that money on a boob job I'd be showing them off! XD Regardless, I'd say it's very very unlikely to be her weight since she was chubbier as a teenager but she had the chest of an 8 year old boy even then...

But her teeth, definitely. Getting your teeth fixed can often have a HUGE effect on your face... I mean just look at the guy from NICO Touches the Walls, and Nocchi from Perfume. Their faces COMPLETELY changed when they got their teeth fixed.
