About Leo
Spoiler:
Early Life

Singer-songwriter, born in Fukuoka in December 1994, started on the piano at a young age, and participated in her school choir at elementary school. Being interested in music and drama from young, she was brought up with strong awareness to the concept of "emotions" in the arts. Once, as she got hold of a photo album from Finland, thinking that she would probably never get to meet the people in the photos in her whole life made her feel miserable. Before she realised it, she began to pen such thoughts down in poetry as they accumulated through her emotional youth, and began to write her own songs as she delved deeper into music each day, which eventually led her to the doors of VOICE Fukuoka Music School with a guitar in hand at age 13.

Such was her thoughts during her youth - she began to write "Sabrina" as she was enveloped by complications and when she finished it at age 15, she decided that she wanted to live by a genuine career in music.

In spring of 2011, she moved to Tokyo alone. Besides attending high school in Tokyo, she continued to write songs and participate in live performances.

Debut

On February 15th 2012, she made her major debut with "Sabrina". The title track was used as the ending theme song for the anime Toriko and as the ending theme song for the TV program Sokketsu! Wake Ari Nee-san EX. The single reached #9 on the Oricon weekly charts and charted for 9 weeks.

On May 9th, she released her first digital single, "Shine." The song was used as the theme song for the drama Kaeru no Oujo-sama. A week later the song was released as her second single. The single reached #7 on the weekly Oricon charts and charted for 9 weeks.

On September 12th, she released her third single, "Bless You." The B-side song, "Ijiwaru na Kamisama" was used as the "Pocky" commercial song. The single reached #8 on the weekly Oricon charts selling 14,498 copies in it's first week.

On October 24th, she released her debut album, LEO. Her debut album sold over 70,000 copies in 7 weeks, debuting at #1 on the daily Oricon charts with 32,355 copies sold in the first week.

Two days after Ieiri's 18th birthday, on December 15, she was awarded the "Best New Artist" award by Billboard Japan.

I'm not familiar with any of her earlier releases, but Kimi ga kureta natsu has been stuck in my head ever since I started watching Koinaka. :heart

Maemi 22nd August 2015 04:32 PM

^ me too, I love it! :3

YuriChan 22nd August 2015 05:52 PM

I love this woman and her songs! :luv2 I've been a fan since she debuted!! :heart

matt9210 22nd August 2015 06:26 PM

^ Same, I've always been surprised at the little support I see for her online. Beautiful voice, and I'm glad Kimi ga Kureta Natsu seems to be a hit for her (it's been #1/high on the recochoku charts for a while I think).

I do generally prefer her singles pre-Junjou though, so for those new to her definitely check out her earlier stuff ^_^

Kacku 22nd August 2015 07:48 PM

^ It's funny, I always see people loving her early releases, but I can't really get into her first two albums or remember most of the singles (LOVE Bless you though). 20 got me hard though, so many songs I love (miss you, little blue, Silly, TWO HEARTS, Junjou...).

I need to go listen to Kimi ga Kureta Natsu some more.

Maemi 22nd August 2015 08:38 PM

^ I cannot stop listening to Kimi ga Kureta Natsu, it's so beautiful *.*

Badly needed a thread like this! :O

I can't wait for Kimi ga Kureta Natsu...once I'm back home from Michigan. Flying home later today (or tomorrow, since I just posted it past midnight EDT), and also crossing fingers if my desktop computer back home turns on as normal...

chocopockymaster 23rd August 2015 05:07 AM

They played a piano version of Kimi ga kureta natsu over the end credits of ep 5 of Koinaka that I really want in full...!!! I'm bummed it's not on the single. Maybe it'll be released on the show's soundtrack?

Miduhyo 23rd August 2015 06:53 AM

I'm in love with this woman. Her first album is one of my favorites and I really enjoyed the concert for it too. Not such a huge fan of 'a boy' but that's all right. But 20. Ohmigawd, 20. I love it. Seriously, I'm so happy there's a thread for her here now!

By the way, I just have to say it, she rocks that hairstyle. It's too perfect for her.

either that or on her next single :)

I haven't had a chance to listen to 20 yet, but Kimi ga kureta natsu reminded me I had to and I'm not disappointed, it's really good <3. I've known her since her debut days and I used to be obsessed with Sabrina and Shine, there was a period when I kept being disappointed with her singles so I kind of stopped paying attention to her, but ever since Junjo she's on fire <3

Maemi 23rd August 2015 12:07 PM

Some fans have compared her to YUI, both musically and physically :) And somehow I can see where is that coming from.

Well, both Leo and YUI are from Fukuoka (same as Ayu)...

AyuGAME 24th August 2015 02:37 AM

for me...

Shine and Silly are still her best songs so far..

I like darker stuff...

Utena 24th August 2015 10:22 AM

She also went to the same music school as YUI and ayaka it seems. But honestly, beside the genre of music itself, I don't really find them similar.

matt9210 25th August 2015 05:03 PM

This thread, as well as her new single, has put me in a Ieiri Leo mood lately :P Been listening to her third album more, as it didn't really stick with me at first. "little blue" and "Still" are lovely! It's still my least favourite album from her, but I don't mean it's bad.

I love Carnival from "a boy", can't be the only one? :P

Minttulatte 25th August 2015 07:06 PM

I listened to the short versions from the opening post of thus thread and they didn't sound bad. I think I'm gonna download her albums and give them a listen. Her voice was very beautiful. :)

Bigtop 26th August 2015 05:58 AM

Leo Ieiri got #6 weekly, though the gap between #5 and #6 was pretty huge. Top five sold no less than 74,000.

Best ranked single in her career so far? Probably...

Miduhyo 26th August 2015 07:03 AM

^ Nice. Kimi ga Kureta Natsu is such a beautiful song, it deserves more attention.

Maemi 22nd September 2015 02:34 PM

Oh it's so siriiiii
