Gwen Stefani - Flock here L.A.M.B's

Her new album This Is What The Truth Feels Like and it's a cute, quirky album.
Who else uses this era? The Sweet Escape was trash honestly besides Wonderful Life and 4 In The Morning so a decade later I'm happy. :luv2

I absolutely loathe the new album! 17 tracks and not one of them is a complete HIT with me. Almost every single track uses that fucking rhythmic scheme (or whatever you call it with the pronounced hi-hats/claps) that trap and hip-hop music uses, which I just cannot stomach. It's truly unfortunate.

I really love the infectious fluorescently colored sounds of her first album though (A Wonderful Life from her second album also replicated that style). That being said, I really disliked the majority of the singles from the album, especially the ones that were a hit with the public. My favorites were Serious, Cool, What You Waiting For, The Real Thing, Crash, and Danger Zone.

I also prefer when she uses nostalgic and melancholic vocals (4 In The Morning, The Real Thing, A Wonderful Life).

She doesn't have anything like any of that on this album. The closest she came was Make Me Like You, but it comes off a tad bit corny. I also don't like when she uses outrageous, out-there, or gangsta-meets-pouty vocals like she does all over this new release.

I havent listen to the whole album, but some of it is good and some of it im just like... is this even the same album???

I haven't listened to the album or the singles yet. To be honest I always loved No Doubt way more than Gwen solo, but she has a few songs I really like nonetheless. But after the non album singles I gave up on her. I hated the last No Doubt album, because it sounded like a watered down version of Gwen's solo stuff. So I was very happy when those two singles were announced since I hoped they would turn out great and I was desperate to get a new great song with her voice. But Baby don't lie was boring as hell and Spark the Fire was so annoying and just some noise mixed with her voice screaming something about having a lighter. What the fuck was that?
Should I give the album a listen or will there be more traumatizing songs like Spark the Fire? After listening to this song and being screamed at by Gwen that she has a lighter and wants to spark the fire, I honestly felt the need to go to pink fluffy Hello Kitty land where I could cuddle cute white rabbits all day long. I'm still not over that song. xD

I liked Baby don't lie, though it's hard to believe the video was directed by the same person who did Cool, apparently.

Spark the fire? More like Light it on fire.

But I'm looking forward to listening to the new album. I've loved all the singles so far.

Currently listening to the album. I finally bought it on iTunes Japan so luckily I can get War Paint.

I really feel like it stays true the previous Gwen albums. It's quirky and poppy and sometimes has a questionable taste level haha.

I think both of her previous albums had one or two songs I really didn't enjoy that much, so in that sense I won't be too upset if that's the case for this album as well.

Initially I'm really hit with a very mid 2000's sound. Which some people might see as being dated, but I happen to really enjoy that period in American pop music. When Gwen and Fergie were at the top of the game haha. I guess it just makes me remember that time in my life.

I listened to the deluxe album from Target and meh; didn't really leave a mark on me. Used to Love You and Make Me Like You are the only songs I really enjoyed. The rest were just background noise. Then again, I was never a fan of her album tracks (except 4 in the Morning omfg LOVE THAT SONG)

Most Underwhelming Video of the Decade Award

For a song that had an amazing cover, a super tropical feel, and a damn good hook, I wanted Gwen to do something over the top with the video. I imagined some choreography with limbo dancing, maybe some hula. I thought it should be like Gwen Stefani vs. Katy Perry or vs. Taylor Swift quality.

And the buildup at the end of the actual video... OMGOMGOMGisshegoingtodosomeamazingchoreographeddan ce??? She's walking down the street now... Maybe now? Maybe nooow? Nope. She's still walking. FFS at least SKIP down the street.

The Ayu Forum and No Doubt Forum are literally the only 2 forums I use. So finding this thread has made my day lmao.

I wasn't very impressed with TSE in comparison to her other albums. But I agree wonderful life & 4 in the morning are amazing. I used to sing 4 in the morning with my vocal coach.

Anyways TIWTTFL is awesome. There are a few tracks I'll give a 10/10. And there's not 1 song I "dislike". but "Return Of Saturn" is my favorite album of all time. So I feel I just keep comparing her material to that which makes me bias.
I just wish she would make darker songs again. I'm happy she's in a good place though.

I compare TIWTTFL and Return of Saturn because they're both about new relationships. Ones dark one's light.

:( I'm trying not to live in the past. But LAMB was so original, creative, dynamic and perfect. One of my favorite albums of all time. It will be hard to match it I guess.
