MONDO GROSSO | the 1st thread

Originally a band formed in Kyoto in 1991, MONDO GROSSO (Italian for "big world") eventually came to be the alias of Shinichi Osawa. He is known for collaborating and producing with a number of artists, like UA, Monday Michiru, bird, wyolica, and Eri Nobuchika among others. He is currently under the avex trax label.

this is so good!

Labyrinth is such an awesome song I totally love it and it's one of my favourite songs atm. I need to check out more songs from MONDO GROSSO

Maemi 25th December 2017 02:14 AM

Yeah it's so unique, I was blown away when I listened to it for the first time.

I LOVE LOVE Labyrinth to Death! It's definitely one of my 2017 jam
The synth, the beat, the piano and the haunting vocals, it immediately transports me into state of trance.

I want more of that kind of songs :luv2

Kacku 25th December 2017 09:02 PM

Labyrinth is THE song of 2017 for me, it's amazing. :luv2 But it's not the only great song on the album, I also love TIME, Wakusei Tantra, Haru wa Towa ni Mezameru, and ERASER.

I'm curious about the older MONDO GROSSO material as well, too bad it's not all available on Spotify.

Just saw that avex uploaded a very short preview from a new MONDO GROSSO song. This song will be used for a new drama

I have to wait for a longer preview, after this short video Í really can't say if I like what I heard or not. But it sounds like it could be a good song

Attune / Detune is such a weird release... It was obvious from the start that it was just a bunch of leftovers from the last album, but it's even more obvious listening to it.

My favourites are TURN IT UP and Itsuwari no Sympathy, which I like a little more every time I hear it. The new versions of ERASER and (especially) Wakusei Tantra are nice, because the original songs are great, but I feel like they don't really contribute much or bring out anything new in the songs, which I like alternate versions to do.

I'm really meh about One Temperature, I don't find it very memorable. KEMURI was never my favourite song in the first place, and the new version doesn't sway me one way or another, but I do like the fact that the vocals are completely different (not just that they're in English and obviously by a different singer, but that it's a rap and it's not all distorted like ACO's version). I do have to say though, the first time I listened to the whole album, the two KEMURIs and the interlude in-between all just blended together so much that I didn't realise the new version was playing until I was at the end of the song, lol.

I'm disappointed with the instrumental Labyrinth. I thought an orchestral take of the song had the potential to be really good, but this version is unambitious, minimalist, and kinda cheap. I was hoping there would be an actual attempt to replicate the fantastical soundscape of the original version with orchestral instruments, or do a different beautiful sound, but this is just piano and some strings doing the least. Basically, I was hoping to hear MY STORY Classical, but what I got was ayu-mi-x Acoustic Orchestra Side.

There is a music video for Itsuwari no Sympathy

The first time I heared the preview for this song Í easn't sure if I would like it or not but after Í watched the video and heared the full song I can say that I'm really into this song. In the music sounds very sensual to.

Didn't got time to listen to the new album, hope that Í
i can do so sometime this week

^ it's amazing, I like it :D

Am I the only one here who listens to his old work? Next Wave is a great album

Kacku 19th August 2018 03:20 PM

^ I've wanted to check out his old work for a while already but haven't been able to find much (though to be fair, I haven't been looking that hard). I have his best-of album downloaded but haven't listened to it yet.
