ayu really No.1 female singer in Japan ??
 

I know ayu's won so many reward, like "best jeannies" & always the top one in Oricon Chart.
But, hey... people who live in Japan !;) Is ayu really the No.1 there ?
I mean if she was the most famous female singer in Japan ??

In my place, when people star talking about JPop, the first name appeared always be Hikki... I don't know why, but Hikki was so famous in my country ! There weren't many people who know about ayumi hamasaki.. I guess that explained why they don't sell most of ayu's original CD/VCD/DVD !

well ayu is the definitely most famous and no.1 singer in japan... why is hikki more well known? because of her first love and she is able to sing in english so that she is more popular... in fact on the quality ayumi's the one who is better singer :D... coz i dont suit to hikki's voice (maybe) and hikki's song just to sentimentalic (too ballads or strange)... ayu isnt as universal as hikki becoz ayu's song isnt always hit (i mean as universal as hikki) in USA that i know Ayu's most popular song is Boys & Girls... in my place the most popular song is Depend On You... in japan itself it is said that LOVE ~Destiny~ :D

I've listened to First Love.. But, still I don't like it, and it doesn't make me to like Hikki anyway !
Just for the info, in my place, when some J-magazine (my local magazine, published by my local people of course, not really by Japan, but it consist of everything about Japan) made music chart, ayu's never be no.1 She often on the 4th or 5th position everytime... Dunno why ...

I dont really think ayu is the most famous in japan .. Coz there is DAI & other singer like MISIA , Other ....

I think Mai Kuraki and Hikaru Utada are up there in popuarity with Ayu. They've beaten Ayu in sales a couple times...

but Ayu is number 1 to me <3

Take for example american artists. Who do you think is THE number one artist here? Britney Spears? Christina Aguilera? Outkast? Enya? Good Charlotte? AFI?

In cases like this, it all depends on the opinion of who you ask and what they're rating by. Album sales? Ayu probably beats most but then again, how many actual albums and singles has she released, how many remix albums? Compared to Hikki? And the fact that Hikki is the only person who rivals Ayu's record sales at AVEX? Also if you check charts, Hikki's often rated higher than Ayu, 'cept Hikki hasn't released anything for quite some time (since her marriage?) since she wants step back and try to break through in America. Ayu of course will be higher on the charts because she has newer material out and doesn't have Hikki to contend with currently.

Voice-wise, again, depends on who you ask. I far prefer Hikki's to Ayu's, but that's my preference. But also in my opinion, Ayu makes the catchier songs and more interesting performances.

Always depends on who you ask and on what particular quality you're rating by.

Being popular (well known) in general I'd say it's Ayu just because she has the useful tool of blanket marketing and also does tons of commercials, TV appearances, concerts, advertisements, and magazine appearances. Hikaru doesn't do a great deal of that obviously as such people can usually name one commercial Ayu has appeared in, but Hikki? I can't think of any.

How the heck did u come up with AFI for being most popular in america??? haha.. i have heard the name before (along with many other bands) but really only heard one song recently.

hmm well to tell u the turth, the only hikki song i really like so far from ones i hav heard is first love.. the others sound funny to me... i had a cousin with was a very big fan of hikki... but now she changed into a ayu fan and listen to ayu all the time. for me ayu is my no.1 singer in japan:rolleyes

i think Ayumi and Boa are the most AVEX's singers popular. And AVEX is very known because it releases a lot. In Pony Canyon, in Sony, etc. there is others singer. However, as far i know, everybody in japan know Ayumi (that doesnt mean that everybody like her, obviously)

Not only music-wise but fashion-wise as well...when Ayu changes her hair colour you start seeing alot of girls on the street with that hair colour. :laugh (this is said from a Japanese person...)
