3" CDS discs?
Can somebody please tell me what is a 3" disc (eg poker face, trust, you) and wot is the point of them???? :eyebrow
They're just like regular CDs, just a bit smaller. You guessed it, 3''. There's not really a point in them, they just look nice. Of course they can't contain 74 minutes, if I'm correct it's 21 minutes/185 Mb that fits on.
so they play in normal cd players?
I think they do play in most CD players, if not all. If you check out your CD player you'll see there's a spare part in the middle of the CD drawer, which lies just a lower than the rest of it. That's where 3'' CDs go. I'm not sure whether they play on every CD player out there. It's said to be impossible to play them in car-CD-players. I wouldn't know, I haven't tried it. But last time I played 3'' discs on my regular CD player, they worked just fine.

ahhh kool i see the line there hehe thanx dude :D

As you probably know, nowadays, the 'normal' format is mainly used. You don't come across those 3'' discs very often anymore, except in the experimental music area, where deviant formats are quite common. (which makes those deviant formats normal altogether if you consider it that way, but that's not the point here, and a different discussion on its own). |
Itīs sad that this format does no longer exsist.
I like those 3" singles. Have 3 from ayu and one from Namie. |
It still does exist, it just isn't commonly used anymore. You can actually get CD-Rs in that format as well.
Yes, but thatīs not the same.
i loved the Package of this Cds. |
i guess the packaging is kind of interesting, but 4 storage purposes they kind of sucked :p along with [the other side] series...
and the fact that theres a limit of like 20minutes on them... |
i think ayu is the one that changed the whole 3" cd single to the normal single cd's because she is the one that introduced maxi singles which has to be normal size cd's and made it so popular...all singles used to be 3" cd before that (which is like before 98'?)
i miss them, kind of convienient actually, didnt take up too much space. especially since she's gone back down to 4 track singles, she doesnt need a big disk.
^ ...? less than 25% of her single releases were snap-pack, how can u miss them :trout
waaaa thx for the info guys... (really want 3" cds now) heuehuhe
Well, it was really Ayu that pioneered the abolishment of the 3" it's something Sony or some company said about stop making all players compatible with the 3" that they stopped using the system. I read this awhile back but can't remember the exact details.
You still see some people use the 3" eg. Hitomi Yaida's i/flancy first press had a bonus 3" with a live track, and HYDE's evergreen/Angel's tale/SHALLOW SLEEP First press edition were released in 3". It seems to be mainly reserved for limited editions nowadays. |
yep, garbage's single [push it] had a limited 3" cd...
