ayu's voice

o_o i'm not sure if it's true..but I heard Ayumi smokes..and that changed her voice from when she sung the older songs. So they have been trying to change the song styles to match more of her current voice.

is this true?? Or overall..does she smoke at all??

JimmyKoria 31st July 2004 07:56 AM

=\ thats a good question, I doubt she would, thats not very childish, and she usually goes that way. She might have when she was young but Im not sure about now

She does not smoke. That rumor probably started from over a year ago when people saw this pic and thought she was holding a cigarette. I still think that it was perhaps a straw or something to stir the drink, but check it out for yourself:

i doubt she does smoke, although i think there has been speculation about it before... i think the changes in her voice are due to the fact that she started out pretty vocally un-trained and as the years go by, her voice develops more and more. i mean, for example, madonna. if you listen to her older stuff compared to now, it almost sounds like a totally different person. of course the time span in voice changes is quite different between madonna and ayu, but i believe it's a similar situation.

Ayumi is a living chimney! I kissed her once and it tasted like nicotine.

EDIT: (This is just a joke ;))

jiayulam 31st July 2004 02:25 PM

i think she inhales

~K+ 31st July 2004 02:31 PM

I don't doubt that being a cigarette, but that always seemed to me to be a prop to go with the 50s/60s costume to me though...

Although some people insists that she's a heavy smoker and if you don't agree with them you're a naive airhead who thinks Ayu is perfect. :rolleyes

the3ye 31st July 2004 03:05 PM

well maybe she smoke from time to time, i guess it's not a habit 'cose we would see it in several moments like brakes in her conerts or other moments. I dunno if she smokes...

weijie22 31st July 2004 03:38 PM

i dont think that she smokes.......

ohsixthirty 31st July 2004 05:41 PM

Hrmm...that certainly looks like a cigarette to me... o_0

I don't care whether she smokes or not as long she still sings good. Too bad that isn't the case, her voice has become really unpleasant to listen to over the recent years; it sounds so coarse making me wonder if her throat is burnt. She might wanna sound as if she's vocally improved by using that long vibrato technique thing, but it really turns out the reverse way, I mean, seriously, ayumi, if you're not someone like Chihiro Onitsuka, just simply don't use it because your vibrato isn't the real vibrato but rather a fake one which is nasal annoying as hell.

JimmyKoria 31st July 2004 06:11 PM

lmao the next rumor will be "HAMASAKI LUNG CANCER SCARE! And why she stopped chain smoking and doing pot"

ImpactBreaker 31st July 2004 07:09 PM

Smoking casually and being addicted to cigarette are 2 different things. However different from alcohol, people who start smoking casually get addicted very fast because the inhaled smoke quickly reaches the blood circulation, it's quickly removed from the organism and it makes the person feel an abrupt shock, which eventually turns into dependency for those chemical substances. Alcohol needs some more time to really turn a person addicted to it because it actually needs to be absorbed by the gastroenteric system and its absorption is hell a lot slower than by inhalation. I don't think ayumi is really a smoker. She might eventually pick a cigarette out of curiosity and try it but I don't think she really feels the need of doing it. And since in japan, the cigarette doesn't have that overly negative image that has been passed through the years I doubt ayu would feel the need to hide that fact if she were a heavy smoker. The opposite we would have seem tons of pics with her holding the ***. LOL

hiro 31st July 2004 08:05 PM

It doesnt matter if she smokes. Singers like Gackt smokes and can still sing very well. I think its about time her voice get some training. The damage she's done to her voice (using improper tech) is really showing.

//hikari 31st July 2004 08:11 PM

That is from the diary thing she does for a magazine correct? I'm sure that Ayu has control over what pictures are put in the magazine, correct?

If she wanted people to know she smoked we would have many more pictures of her with cigarettes casually smoking or whatever. We don't though. So I highly doubt that's a cigarette.

I used to smoke also!!!!

you dont hold a straw like that, who honestly cares if she smokes?

Coelacanth 31st July 2004 10:28 PM

Ahh maybe she lights a few from time to time... I think she should try to quit completely though, her voice is deteriorating enough...

Delirium-Zer0 31st July 2004 10:28 PM

*sigh* okay, I don't know how many times I have to say this, on how many different forums, but...

Almost EVERYONE in japan freaking smokes. Singers included. They just don't care there like they do in the US.

Some of the greatest singers in japan smoke. Koshi Inaba, Gackt, Hyde, Tomoko Kawase, AYU (YES that's a cigarette in the picture. She's tapping the ashes into a cup cuz there's no ashtray nearby. It's not the first pic of ayu smoking that we've seen, either).

Please stop mentioning this or making a big deal out of it. There are huge cultural differences between the USA and japan. If ayu does smoke, which I'm about 98% sure she does, it's no big deal there and no one mentions it because no one looks down on it there. Ayu doesn't take alot of pics of her smoking, probably because she doesn't think she looks all that attractive doing it, that's all.

This gets brought up often enough that I might add it to the drinking game.

kournikova 1st August 2004 12:50 AM

dont think shes smoke... ..
