KINGDOM HEARTS MATE!!!!!!!

KINDGOM HEARTS!!!!

(though the ost for spirited away is quite nice too ^_^)

I dunno, probably Kingdom Hearts, because KH kicks major ass. If you have the Princess Mononoke OST, there's no need for the Spirited Away OST, they reused a whole bunch of songs from Mononoke in the movie and I'm assuming they put them on the SA OST.

sxesven 9th August 2004 09:36 PM

I'm thinking Kingdom Hearts too, although I initially was gonna buy Sugar High. I loved 'Tiger In My Love', which is on it, but I read a review of the album stating that TIML was the only upbeat song on it. That put me down, somewhat. However, the comparisons with Vonda Shepherd (or however you write that name) completely repulsed me, so much that I seriously started doubting whether I should buy it.

That's why I'm thinking of buying either the KH OST or the SA one. I haven't decided because I don't know which one makes the better album as a whole. I mean, the music of both KH and SA is great, but I don't know about the albums theirselves. For instance; how many times do the songs on the KH soundtrack get looped? For instance: some soundtracks have great loopings, but some have terrible ones. Star Ocean (2nd story) looped each song only once, cramming like over 50 songs on a CD. It can still be great music then, but it doesn't make a good listen.

Ashley, I don't have the Princess Mononoke soundtrack, so I guess the recycling wouldn't really bother me. Furthermore, Hisaishi isn't the only one who recycles as if his life depends on it. John Williams reuses the same themes all the theme throughout the entire Star Wars series; I guess that's what Hisaishi had in mind of doing when composing for all those Miyazaki films. Nevertheless, I think the music for Spirited Away is brilliant, including the theme-song.

Right now, after writing this (and evaluating at the same time), I'm leaning towards Kingdom Hearts still, but well, I haven't decided yet. So, by all means, vote. And do it quickly.

luminaire 10th August 2004 10:31 AM

"Sugar High".

~K+ 10th August 2004 10:51 AM

Sugar high, 'Tiger in my love' really does stand out though, not that some others doesn't.

I personally didn't like the KH music when playing it though...other than the orchestrated instrumental of 'Simple & Clean'. The game makes me nauseous...

starr5245 10th August 2004 10:53 AM

spirited away!!!

ImpactBreaker 10th August 2004 10:57 AM

Kingdom hearts!?!? But OMG it's D-I-S-N-E-Y!!! *vomits all over* Someone pick a Plasil for me please :puke :puke :puke :puke :puke :puke

I'd go with Sugar High...if you aren't into slow ballads then Chihiro might really not be good for you though :shrug

bulmasman 10th August 2004 01:13 PM

~K+ 10th August 2004 02:02 PM

lol, I personally don't have a real problem with Disney; I love the movies and the soundtracks are even better in general. Square + Disney was a dream come true I guess. I love the soundtrack too.

Anybody wanna comment on the comparison between Chihiro Onitsuka and Vonda Shepephepard (or whatever her name is, you know, the b-grade singer that was always singing songs in the Ally McBeal series).

lovia 10th August 2004 06:44 PM

my personal opinion will be sugar high... her voice is so unique... not easily get bored..

but sorry i haven heard of that miss vonda voice yet not in good position to judge her.. but i guess sugar high will be a good choice ;)

disney is still all right..but i guess mostly suitable for those easy going listener =P, well, no harm too... ^^

sxesven 10th August 2004 07:15 PM

Soundtracks in general may be suitable for the 'easy going listener', but that doesn't mean they can't be suitable for any 'advanced listener' either. Personally, I don't think Chihiro Onitsuka's music is more sophisticated than either Shimomura's or Hisaishi's. If you want 'sophisticated music', I got loads (*points to Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Merzbow, Dillinger Escape Plan etc. CDs*), but I don't always feel the need to buy something 'sophisticated'. Yet, I don't think the music for Kingdom Hearts is light-hearted or simplistic; I actually think it's quite brilliant.
