Japanese, English or Chinese songs?

Ever since I got into Japanese music since 5 years back, I practially lost interest in songs of other languages. Even though I do not understand the lyrics directly that much just by listening. It's just bizarre as though I got bonded with the language itself that I only will and want to listen to Japanese songs. Frequently I watch mtv chinese and english channels, sometimes I feel that the music is not bad but they just never strike me amazing to listen non-stop. I've only listen alot to japanese songs and only pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~ songs.

However all around me, my 80% of my friends listen to chinese pop or english pop. They complain that 'We don't understand the language at all even if it's nice". I think that's kind of disappointing but maybe I'm being weird.

I wonder do you guys feel this way too? Or as long as music is nice, you go on and listen?

I listen to J-pop and HK-pop equally, they both have things to offer I can't quite get off another.

Just because I start to like J-pop doesn't mean I have to banish C-pop...every industry has their gems I'm sure, and often they're stuff you need a little bit of work to look under, not the stuff that gets overplayed all the time on TV.

i listen to j-pop, hk-pop and k-pop a lot but the only one i can understand (a bit, not even all of it) are the hk-pop songs coz i know a bit of cantonese... i hardly listen to western music at home, simply coz i think the asian pop scene brings out a different kind of sound which i like much more... this is especially so with ayumi coz ayumi's voice really is one of a kind imho =)

Jpop really sticks it to me the most
But I do listen to C/K-pop also
It's just that, from what I have been listening to, IMHO Jpop has the more variety that I like... :P I don't know :P

i concentrate most of my time for JPOP. It doesn't mean I dislike english pop or my country music, it's just that I focus mainly on japanese stuff but if i listen to english songs or whatever I can enjoy them as much.

I listen to anything that sounds good to me. Even though I don't understand any other language rather than English (and some Japanese words in songs) .. I have a stronger connection to foreign songs than in English. It's a mystery, that's why :P And we all like mysteries, neh?

I mostly listen to Japanese music, but American music on the radio .. I barley listen to American music at home.

I like Jpop most. I don't know much about Cpop, I just know Kelly Chen and Twins...lol

Ayumi_Hamasaki902 14th September 2004 06:39 PM

I haven't listen to English songs that much ever since I gotten into J-pop about 5 or 6 years ago. I hate English pop stars now!! -Curses them- I've always liked the way J-pop Idols do that Music Videos and not dress like such ****s and skimppy outfits!! That's something I thank J-pop for! Great Music and Great looking Music Videos!! And I've listened to some C-pop Music mostly Sammi Cheng. But that's about it.

007_kenshin 14th September 2004 06:40 PM

The only american music I listen to is Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Hendricks, Deep Purple, and all the other oldies, yah... :D

Same here. I listen to what my Mom does in the car and I don't change the radio station. Because she listens to Classic Rock so I just leave it as is.

I listen to Japanese songs now; Jpop and Jtrance. Some American hard rock or alternative rock thrown in here and there. Plus some Kpop.

CT_Cool 14th September 2004 07:42 PM

I used to just listen to chinese / English music. But ever since i started listening to k pop / j pop to i just totally lost track out English music. Now it mainly j pop (ayu of course:rolleyes). But part from that, anything that sounds good will do me fine.

My family doesn't like that I listen to J-pop all the time. But I also listen to Techno/Dance Music and they don't like that either. But oh well. I love it!!

I listen to mostly Japanese music, I listen to quite a few English bands, and Im looking for some more Chinese/Korean artists.

I was actually thinking about this the other day when a friend asked me why I never listen to K-pop and C-pop. I think it's just because I'm in love with the Japanese language. It flows so well, and when I'm improving words to a melody I usually sing in Japanese instead of English, since it just...works better.

Although I still listen to some English...but not much...

I feel that way about asian music in general. I love chinese, japanese, and korean languages and therefore I tend to love the music. I lost all interest in music of my own country. Even if I hear a song thats pretty good, I'm not use to the sound of the persons voice and the accent even sounds not always good to me. Even if I like a song remotely that's American or whatever, I don't care at all to listen to it a lot. ^^;;
