"This evening I received a phone call that is every mother's worst dream," wrote ODB's mother, Cherry Jones, in a statement released tonight. "My son, Russell Jones, passed away. To the public, he was known as Ol' Dirty Bastard. To me, he was known as Rusty, the kindest and most generous soul on earth. I appreciate all the support I received. Russell was more than a rapper-- he was a loving father, brother, uncle and most of all, son."

Shocking. Condoleances to his family and friends, R.I.P. ODB!

Nothing has been released officialy, although indeed ODB had been complaining about pains in the chest. So, most likely, yes. And indeed, young. Very young. He'd become 36 on Monday.

I loved his first album, Return To The 36 Chambers. He was a truly innovative artist, and I'm going to miss him. Hell, I feel nostalgic. Might go and play some old Wu-Tang records.
