best english

Aside from Utada Hikaru (that's just an obvious one) which Jpop/Jrock singers would you say have really good english? personally i think Bonnie Pink is head and shoulders above the rest to be honest

Fayray, I can pretty much understand about over 95% of her English.

Chances are the lesser known-artists have much better English than the more mainstream ones. Bonnie Pink and Rie-fu has really good English.

Kumi from LOVE PSYCHEDELICO and the vocalist of CORE OF SOUL seems to have pretty good English too from what I've heard.

I can't understand OLIVIA though even if she's native. -_-

Personally, I think there are Japanese artists with clearer English than Utada.

nmskalmn 29th November 2004 10:50 PM

Tomoko Kawase is pretty understandable when she sings in english.

paper_doll 29th November 2004 10:53 PM

Kumi from LOVE PSYCHEDELICO. That's all I can think of.
Just on a side note, Hikki's English bugs me... X_x

bulmasman 29th November 2004 10:54 PM

Hyde has really good english, and Toshi from X-Japan had decent english aswell ^^

ayumi_pukka89 29th November 2004 10:57 PM

^Yoshiki has good english...he wrote most of the songs for X-Japan that were in english...plus I saw an interview of him when he was in korea and he spoke english good. ^^;

HYDE's nmm...a hit or miss I think. I can understand it after having read the lyrics, but sometimes you can't really tell he's singing English (IMO). o_O'

I find MISIA's and Mai Kuraki's relatively easier for me to understand regardless what others may say.

His english was kinda bad at Otakon. xDDD

Miwa Yoshida from DREAMS COME TRUE
Shiina Ringo
m-flo
melody.

Chieco Kawabe's english is pretty good, although it seems she has a hard time saying 'silent screaming' on her new single. ^_^

And I'd have to agree about Bonnie Pink's english... the first song I heard from her was 'I'm In The Mood For Dancing,' and I thought she was an American artist! ^_^;;

paper_doll 30th November 2004 12:41 AM

Oh! That chick from Seagulls Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her. I forget her name.. oh Aiha Higurashi. Her English is really good. K from GUN DOG's English is sometimes iffy, but I understood almost all of Chair...

ImpactBreaker 30th November 2004 12:58 AM

BONNIE PINK is amazing. I think her english is pretty good. Not perfect but she has a pretty good accent compared to most japanese artists out there. I mean, she sings whole original english songs in some of her albums.
Rope Dancer and Wildflower are good examples.

DoublE has pretty great and understandable english imo.

Crystal Kay obviously has a fluent english. She released a whole english cover album.

OLIVIA, I think she intentionally makes her english not clear because of how she changes her tone of voice so constantly over her songs.

kristen 30th November 2004 01:02 AM

wow im surprised no one's mentioned BoA. She has pretty good english imo.

viviphalen 30th November 2004 01:32 AM

yeahhh
indeed
BoA has a pretty reasonable english

weeeeeee
_o/

~K+ 30th November 2004 01:46 AM

I was hoping someone wouldn't mention BoA...she has pretty bad English. -_-

On most occasion it's understandable when she does one or two lines in a Japanese song, but when she does a full English song, it's pretty tough to understand. The same can be said about Koda Kumi I think.

walking proud 30th November 2004 01:53 AM

yeah koda kumi is kind of hard to understand.. my friend and i were playing a game where we hadn't heard her song before and it was in english and we were to write down what we thought she said.. we were way off XDD

MsMiyabi 30th November 2004 02:12 AM

Verbal from M-flo
Heartdales
and Namie Used to be good with her english don't know what the hell happen

natalaxie 30th November 2004 02:19 AM

BoA's english is so ungraceful, i mean the kinda stuff u just wouldnt say as a native english speaking person, awkward stuff. a good contrast is shiina ringo, in the kyoiku album the song genjitsu something... the english phrases are really good, but her accent is still kinda strong

i think there's already a thread about this too...
