In other news, Japan's Oricon has released it's annual Total Sales ranking, and Utada is number one with a massive 8.6 billion yen in Japanese sales (approximately US $86 million). This figure does not include Utada's Japanese releases under Universal International (Exodus, Easy Breezy DVD single), but does include her Toshiba EMI releases from 2004 (Single Collection Vol. 1, Dareka no negai ga kanau koro, Utada Hikaru in Budokan 2004, Dareka no negai ga kanau koro DVD single) Congratulations to Utada!

WOW. That's a LOT of money. WAY more than what Britney makes, which I think is around $30 mil a year.

Well, this doesn't take into account concert ticket sales and merchandise. It's not fully representative of an artist's total worth.

Yeht that's right this only accounts for 'disc' sales so it doesn't include concerts. I imagine she would've made alot more money from her tour this year. Weren't they all sold-out's?

and its just sales, not profits, so i mean u have to take out a whole chunk of that to find the actual profit, and then the executives and everyone takes their share, so its just sales alone isnt it ey?

Even if it takes forever for her to release new material in Japan, her fans will always await for it .. die hard.. lol

i remember reading from somewhere that ayu's record sales alone in 2001 was worth US$ 200 million.
