Britney Spears: the biggest selling female artist of the last 5 years

BMG celebrates Britney's phenomenal achievement

BMG.co.uk: Britney Spears has just sold her 60 millionth album since she exploded onto the scene in 1999. To celebrate this phenomenal achievement the 28th Feburary 2005 will see the release of Britney Spears funky Do Somethin' on SonyBMG. This fantastic new single is taken from Britney’s recent record-breaking Greatest Hits collection Greatest Hits: My Prerogative.

With 60 million albums under her belt, Britney Spears leads the pack as the biggest selling female artist of the last 5 years. This record puts her ahead of fellow megastars Beyonce, Avril Lavigne, Madonna, Cher, JLo, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Dido.

Bloodshy & Avant, who together with Britney, brought us the hottest track of 2004 and UK No.1 – Toxic, produce Do Somethin'. Another slick piece of electro-pop that will be on heavy rotation on both dance floors and i-pods throughout the year.

Britney’s recent Greatest Hits: My Prerogative broke the UK record for 1st week sales of a ‘Greatest Hits’ by a female artist – selling over 115,000 in the first week alone. The album has since gone double platinum in the UK (600,000) and is close to being certified triple platinum...

Do Somethin' is a classic Britney track that looks set to be a huge hit. Give it a listen by selecting from the drop-down box above.

Out 28th February 2005.

I'm quite suprise she sold more than any other female artist. She even got the #1 spot in Japan for her Greatest Hits album for the first week. Suprising that she have sold more copies in 5 years than Madonna did in 10 years.

Go Britney. I just really hope that your next album would be wayyy better than 'Do Somethin', 'My Prerogative' and 'In The Zone'. Those were, by far, her worse releases.

Good for Britney ... But Madonna sold more than 16o.ooo.ooo [!!!] Albums and over 5o.ooo.ooo Singles! I think she is the Queen of Pop for all time! :-) I hope her new Album will be cool ... :-)

extepan 8th February 2005 12:36 PM

if you count all time of course madonna wins. but in the ast 5 years madonna didnt release so many albums, so it makes sense that she sold less than britney

wooo... nice to hear that

..:DisarO:.. 17th February 2005 01:07 PM

o_O She doens't deserve it...

//hikari 17th February 2005 04:39 PM

What makes her not deserve it?

She didn't force people to buy her albums. They bought them because they wanted to. So if people were willing to buy 60 million albums in total. I think she deserves a little credit for selling so well.

Let's not all be hypocrites ;) .. I've seen quiet a few people on here get annoyed when someone posted something negative about one of your favorite artists.

bernardation 17th February 2005 06:03 PM

she does deserve it !!
