In March 2000 Ayumi became the first artist to have 4 albums in the top 10 at the same time (Ayu-mi-x II US+EU no.2, Ayu-mi-x II Acoustic Orchestra no.3, Ayu-mi-x II JPN no.6 and SUPER EUROBEAT present Ayu-ro mix no.10).

Ayu’s record sales account used to make up 42.6% of Avex’s Overall revenues, which also makes her largely responsible for its Japan leading 14.% market share.

When Ayumi began appearing in ads for cosmetic maker “Kose”, Kose report that sales increased drastically since Ayu started endorsing them its mascara went from no.4 to no.1 within 2 months and a new lip gloss sold 500,000 units in its first 2 days on the shelves.

Ayumi has sold more records than any other musical act for 2 years running in the world’s second largest music market.

Ayumi’s “}{“ single was the only single that sold over a million in the year 2002.

Ayu made history by being the first to win the Japan Record Grand Prix award 3 times consecutively: (based on merit not sales)
2001 for "Dearest"
2002 for "Voyage"
2003 for "No way to say"

First Japanese to have a wax figured made in Hong Kong at Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong.

Ayumi is the fifth woman to have 10 No.1 albums in Japan, others are Yumi Matsutoya, Seiko Matsuda, Akina Nakamori, and Miyuki Nakajima

2. LOVEppears
3. Duty
4. A BEST
5. I am...
6. SUPER EUROBEAT presents Ayu-ro mix 2

In 2005 a Japanese TV station got the results from a survey and Ayu was throned as 'number 1 queen in the history of Japan's music industry.

TiA 3rd
Dreams Come True 4th
Mika Nakashima 5th
Utada Hikaru 6th
Misia 7th
Aiko 8th
Matsuda Seiko and Nakamori Akina tied at 9th position

I don't know the exact details to it, but when Ayu started doing commercials for Tu-Ka they were doing really badly (I think they were close to having to be shut down), and then she made them one of the top phone companies in Japan.

Qt Mashi, it was posted by a member here...

http://www.ahsforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21939

but reading it again, the info doesnt seem to be so reliable. it is more like an subjective statement saying how popular ayu is.

URANUS 16th February 2005 12:40 AM

I think it's possible. But i don't think Ayu sells more CDs than the three of them combined...hehe.

kournikova 16th February 2005 10:33 AM

I have a few here, I found some great stuff:

- She sold about 42 millions copies, in Japan only.
- She's at the #1 spot for the "Number of Top 10 Singles (female)" in the Oricon Chart.
- She's at the #3 spot for the "Number of #1 Singles" in the Oricon Chart.
- Her record sales account used to make up 42.6% of Avex’s (her record compagnie) overall revenues.
- Her "H" single was the only single that sold over a million in the year 2002.
- She made history by being the first to win the Japan Record Grand Prix award 3 times consecutively.
- She's the first Japanese to have a wax figured made in Hong Kong at Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong.
- She's the 5th woman to have 10 #1 albums in Japan.
- All of her albums (9 in total) have reached over a million copies sold.
- Five of her singles have reached over a million copies sold.
- In March 2000, she became the first artist to have 4 albums in the top 10 at the same time.
- In 2001, she sold $200 US million worth of records.
