He was once a solo artist when the band split up to do solo projects in 2001.

There's also a HIDE, but he's a different rocker and not apart of Laruku.

Lol, they are still together. They just went on a break to do solo projects. They have an album due out on June 22nd called "AWAKE."

Anyway, the question is already answered, but I'll give a bit more detail:

Yes, the band *temporarily* split up and did solo projects in 2001, Hyde just being Hyde, Tetsu going out as TETSU69, Yukihiro going out as acid android, and Ken putting together another band called S.O.A.P.s (Sons of all Pussies). They got back together to release their (ninth?) album SMILE last year, and as Brittany said, they've got another album "AWAKE" due out soon. :yes
