what happened after nothing from nothing??

Hello.

As far as I know ayu made her debut single/album Nothing from nothing in 1995 along with some other guys, but it was not avex, but another recoprd company. a few questions here:

1) how did she get to do that? and why / what motivated her/ who asked
her? (since she never wanted to be a singer...)

2) was the single/album a success?

3) What happened afterwards? obviously she wasn't a celebrity back then,...

4) what did she do then until she met max matsura?

please could somebody help me there, I'm really interested in that part of ayu's history.

thank you

I don't know much about it but this release wasn't a success and she was dropped by her talent agency Afterwards she just continued staying in Shibuya.

"She was "discovered" by her producer Max Matsuura, an avex trax producer when she was singing karaoke. When he asked her if she wanted to pursue a singing career, she said she agreed, "only because I had nothing to do." Hamasaki was contracted voice lessons in Tokyo, which she did not attend, as they were too rigid. For a more relaxed atmosphere, Matsuura sent Hamasaki to New York, an event she would later say was exactly what she needed. Impressed by the writing style in her letters to him, Matsuura suggested that she try her hand at writing her own lyrics for her songs." taken from Wikipedia

Hope I helped.

But doesn't she always say she refused on the spot when max asked her; now I learn she performed as "idol on stage" and was at a talent agency...this is a contradiction; obviously she wanted to become famous?

Yeah but I guess after a first disappointment she didn't want to sing any longer.

yeah I guess getting dropped hurt her bad... but max must have sweet talked her...

I'll bet that company that dropped her is kicking themselves silly by now :yes

Well, I'm not sure if at that point her goal was to become famous. She had dropped out of high school and was living in Tokyo alone, the only kind of jobs she would be able to do at that age is Idol related stuff. So I think it was just as much about her just needing money to get by at that point as it was about her wanting to be famous.

SHe also went to some kind of talent school, there's an interview on her past translated in some page. I can't remember it's name though. She dropped out of the talent school, but always did modelling and "idol" stuff.

There are some pages about NOTHING FROM NOTHING that claim the single hit the #1 spot but I highly doubt that information. I mean, I don't really think the album or single made that much of a splash. All I know is, someone once said that Ayumi at that time had claimed she was the youngest female rapper.

Recently, on Music Station, Ayumi said that if she wasn't doing what she's doing now, she'd be a floater. ^^ I think she's very aware that she doesn't have office skills, lol.

Apparently, it didn't even chart.
