Question For Musical Performers...

I think this goes under music chat:
Anyways, Has anyone else here performed outside in the cold? I had to on friday, and it was pretty miserable, not to mention instruments wouldn't stay in tune and only about 150 people were outside to endure the cold. I was wondering if any other performers (DJ, and singers included) also feel a negitave vibe when playing out in the cold?

Lol I've done that once, our concert band had to play outside in the cold, & all the flutes were so out of tune it was gross. xD Not to mention our fingers were freezing so it wasn't necessarily easy to do trills... :P

I would think it'll be hard to concentrate playing when it's cold. If it's too cold you wouldn't be able to fully move your fingers, which would suck! I've never had to play in the cold before cause I have my recitals in a room. ^^

My school band plays in the Santa Clause parade every year.

I play flute. >.>
One year it was rather blizzardly out, and all the flautists ended up with either frozen pads, or massive spitsicles hanging off the footpieces. >.>

And yeah...it was mizerable for everyone.

I have before ...
I was playing on a parade with air cadets and it was -10 degrees outside... it took almost an hour to finish our march in parade. sigh. my fingers were so cold I couldn't play after our 2nd time replaying the songs. oh, I forgot to say that I also play the baritone saxophone... guess how tired, miserable, depressed I was after the parade.

i play flute too...thats why, in my band, we are required to wear thermals in the cold, and many people wear two pairs of things, and yes the flutes sound horribly in the cold...its like theryre all flat...and the poor clarinets freeze their fingers...we have to wear gloves, but the clarinets have to cut the tips to play...

now...when we're out doing our field show its not so cold...because you get hot when ur marching, especially our show this year, one of the songs had absolutely no stops and we're like flying out there...it gets really cold when you have to go up in the stands though...

I don't think Band is as bad as Choir while performing outside when cold. With band, it's just instruments but with Choir your voices are kind of unpredictable and your throat can get dry and scratchy and ugly, and if that happens with the whole choir... you're screwed.

But you don't have to carry anything... unlike the choir, we have to carry an instrument.

My friend performed once in March, it was raining cats and dogs. His fingers and his members' fingers were frozen, and they were worying for their guitar lol... I was also frozen, since I was shooting (I mean.. filming with the camera in my hand) Their performance was not bad, but poor them! lol

oh yes! I hated playing outside in the cold! Not so much singing... but my trumpet had to be retuned after I went outside : /

I don't think Choir is as difficult as it is to play an instrument in the cold... sure you throat gets dry... but you need siliva in your mouth to play your horn too... plus your fingers get frozen and it's hard to play the instrument itself...

Thats just my opinion because I've done both singing and playing an instrment outside... I'd take singing in the cold anyday to playing in it :yes
