overrated artists

okay i read in a thread earlier of wanting a thread for overrated artists. One overrated artist (IMO) is 50 cent...what really makes him so cool? Another one is Ciara...I just think the words "let me see you one, two, step" is just so...wierd...and Slipknot...I just dont think they're all that great.

sexysaucestar 17th January 2006 09:17 PM

Overrated Western artists....haha there are so many...I can't even begin to list..but I guess I don't have too much to say on this since, like I said in your "underrated" thread...I don't follow Western music much anymore T_T gwah...

A lot of the hip-hop/r&b/rap artists shouldn't be so popular though. I mean...some of their lyrics are so weird and out-there....yet people still like them? Odd. But I guess whatever floats their boat eh..I really just don't see the appeal for the majority of them.

Mad_Cactuar 17th January 2006 09:27 PM

Hmmm...

Chris Brown, Usher, Snoop Dogg and practically everyone who has topped the billboard hot 100 charts in the past few years except Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson. Their stuff are so average and insipid, and yet they get number 1s.

slashess 18th January 2006 01:11 AM

yeah, gwen stefani isnt really all that great (I liked her when she was with no doubt though) and let's see...Green Day's new stuff... the older stuff was a lot better than American Idiot.

well, right now everyone's talking about M.I.A. like...A LOT!!! o_O;;
I don't think she doesn't deserve all that hype, but it's like all those people have never heard anything like it in its whole life...which is sad, because in my country (and of course, around the world) there's many great acts of urban/protest/reggae/dub/hip-hop music talking about how hard is to live, how easy is to somebody sell its soul...etc. and everything with great music arrangements, just like M.I.A.

It's not that she isn't a great artist, but she doesn't surprise me as an artist like to all those people writing unbelievable critics about her. :/

lotusoka 18th January 2006 03:09 AM

Usher. O_o

I never quite came around to being a big Usher fan, so that's probably why I find him to be extremely overrated.

Neo Daydream 18th January 2006 03:24 AM

i second that Usher... bleah he is a disgrace to TN.. >.< hmm... who is overrated.....? well, there's the Black Eyed Peas... "my hump"???? "lovely lady lumps"????? eww thatz just stupid and gross! >.<

everlastingRAINBOW 18th January 2006 03:30 AM

american artists XD

terra 18th January 2006 03:50 AM

Yeah I think so too, much of them are just (plizz) making lyrics out of control..I don't like it..I always review a song from it's tune and lyric. The Western especially the HipHop one that I think making bad atitude lyrics and ask the fans to imitate it..it's junk.....(oopss sorry)
They got all yahoo-wahoo like 'bambling band of baboons' with pleasure, sex, money, bling2 and I guess that's all...

bondingo 18th January 2006 04:06 AM

You need not look further than the current American music industry for overrated artists. There are just so many, but I would have to say that some of the most are Fall Out Boy, 50 Cent and all of G-Unit, Mariah Carey's new stuff, and Death Cab for Cutie. Sorry to offend anyone that may like them but it just bugs me :grumpy

DA1SUK1DAY01691 18th January 2006 04:38 AM

almost every mainstream artist these days are pretty much overrated. The lyrics of their songs can be so... meaningless and trite. But if it comes out of their mouth, it's gold. It's stupid.

RubbishMui 18th January 2006 08:46 AM

oo..i think 50cent and gwen stefani too..eminem? i just don't like his rapping...

i don't really listen to much western music anymore although i'm trying to get back into listening to some of the more popular stuff..haven't found any good songs worth listening to yet XD

the Black Eyed Peas were great a few years ago, you just have to listen to their older stuff (when there was no Fergie :eviltongu ) and of course watch their vids ^^ they are quite funny most of the time

Le ditto. As much as I like her, I think the hype is bizarre.

No! I meant that every other artistes were overrated, except Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson. :D

M.I.A gets the hype probably cos of her stripped music and no one has released an album full of Hollaback-ish songs. Aside from the fact she mentioned the P.L.O. And she's talented. :luv2

Piccolo 18th January 2006 09:40 PM

Just because you people don't like these artists doesn't mean they are overrated...

Yeah, It seems like some artists are just being said to be overrated.

I think some of them are "overplayed". Eminem is not overrated. I'm not a fan but his stuff is new. I don't like his new song period, it's the worse song ever! His other stuff is really neat though.

Echoed_Memories 20th January 2006 11:37 PM

I don't think any artists are "overrated", just "overplayed", like KORiA said. Songs from Ciara, Usher, Fall Out Boy, Destiny's Child, Jennifer Lopez, etc. are constantly on the radio and their music videos are on heavy rotation on networks like MTV and VH1
