On My Way Booklet

Ok I first I Thought it was a snow cone. But looking at it close in the photobook this thing looks kinda different. Snow Cone's color doesn't look solid like this so what I wanna know what is she eating.

I looked at my booklet closely..maybe she's eating some rainbow-coloured ice cream. o_o [Maybe that's why she also has a spoon?]

hopeorpain 20th January 2006 05:27 AM

Thanks now I know im not crazy. If you look at the color and the way it looks in the book. It doesn't seems like a Snow Cone at all.

But what ever she is eating looks yummy :luv2 .

Axel_Grease 20th January 2006 05:38 AM

I don't think it would be ice cream, why would it have a straw? o.0 Unless it's something like a Root Beer Float. I'll go with what hopeorpain said about it being a huge icee. Maybe they just made the snow cone extra nice cause it's Ayu, iono.

It's a snowcone.. my favorite type too .. they have them here in the summer time and they cost $5 to get them that size.. They use the same exact little cup things (if you notice there is a white styrofoam cup inside the red cup with the flower petal type edge).. the big cup thing is rounded like that because as the ice tends to melt it would get all over the place.. and it really works very well (Keeps the kids pretty mess free.. even my 2 year old!). They make them by hand (well with a machine.. but they pack it by hand in that color and then pour on flavor syrup) and have roughly 100 flavors you can get (at least here they do).. and they give you a straw, and a spoon (the straw is so as you get to the bottom you can just drink everything as it becomes rather slushy as you eat it).. ^_^

.. and EVERY time I keep seeing that picture around it makes me want it to be summer so I can have a snowcone *pouts*.. the snowcone stands probably wont open until april... may?. *pouts* I've been craving a snowcone since I had my last one.. which looked similar.. but I had my flavors going in stripes like a rainbow.. Ayu must really like whatever flavor her red is (I'm thinking Cherry?) .. because she put half as cherry.. and the other half as two different flavors (Lemon and Blue raspberry?)

If you look at it, you can tell by the way it looks in that first pic on the right page that it's a snowcone by the chunk of it thats taken off by the straw (notice it?) and also by the consistancy of the ice.. there are little holes in places where the syrup sunk in more.. plus the red and the blue blend together where they meet to make purple.. The syrup they use (here) is good quality and very thick.. so it gives GREAT flavor as well as very great colors.. ^_^

Also, in that top pic on the right page (the one with her in the rainbow color speech bubble).. notice how you see alot of white near the yellow color and the blue? as you get further down. .the syrup has more time to settle to the bottom (another reason for the straw.. mixed with the ice thats also melting it makes a yummy slurpee/slushy drink at the end!).. and the ice starts to turn white again..

edit: ohh.. the snowcones here that sell these ones.. are called "Hawaiian shaved ice" ..that is pictures from Hawaii right?.. it must be a hawaii version of a snoecone then?

Huaka 20th January 2006 10:39 AM

It's not a snow cone. It's called "shaved ice" and is a Hawaii specialty. The place she's eating at "Matsumoto's" or something is considered the best. It's really delicious. All different flavors and so refreshing when it's hot. I think it tastes much better than snowcones. She's eating a Rainbow shave ice. Meaning it has grape, strawberry, lemon, blueberry, etc... in it.

I personally love the li hing mui flavored one ^^;;.

I said HERE they are $5.. not that they are that everyplace... my city is expensive for practically everything as is.. a gallon of milk is like $4 and the park that i get the shaved ice at everything is super high priced too..

sexysaucestar 21st January 2006 09:18 PM

Shaved ice it is..I'll just take you Hawaiians' words. :D I'd love to have some of that stuff though...

Huaka 21st January 2006 09:45 PM

You should try it really good. Although I think Matsumoto's and Baldwin's are the best for making shave(d) ice (either works, it's called both ways), the ice is so fine and the syrup they use is delicious ^^;;.

Idon't know if it's really hawaiian but in ,y country (Mexico) we have this style of shaved/rasped ice and we call it "Raspado" or "Nieve Raspada" (rasped ice cream), there are two versions:

The classical in a plastic cup with milky flavours like Pecan, Vanilla, Strawberry, Milkcandy or "Water" flavours like Lemon, Strawberry, Mango, Myrtle,Tamarindo, Chamoy (the last two are sometimes spicy) and many others... it's very common and really cheap!! (price around 1 or 1.5$).

And the other one it's the same, it's shaved ice but it has an "inverse V" form, like an inverted cone, the flavours are limited but they have nice and delicious color such as the one Ayu's eating the price depends a lot of the place you buy it but it's not that expensive.

Lately my Grandma buys it a lot for she has many cravings of sweet so she buys not only for herself but for everyone of her grandsons (we're eleven!!) but she buys them only once a week. Yukiko chan already explained how to do eat them and why the cup, the form, the syrup and the straw.

It is more solid than a snowcone for the ice is still in little blocks which you might enjoy chewing at times to have some freezing flavour experience in here they're made by hand and in some places with machines but being artcrafts these sweet treats are enjoyed much better made by hand.
