All about Ayumi

IS J-pop queen Ayumi Hamasaki really (miss)understood as the title of her new album suggests?

It would be hard to judge from her music, but the 84-page pictorial booklet that comes with the limited edition version definitely shows a different side of her.

Instead of being the perennial glam queen, Ayumi, 27, lets her hair down for a change and shows her more candid and laidback side.

Shot in New York last October when she was there to shoot music videos, the booklet, aptly titled On My Way, follows her work travels, from her hotel room to a restaurant, a supermarket, the woods, and even the beach.

One moment she is cruising along in a sleek convertible, and the next, she's a bikini-clad sunshine girl frolicking on the beach.

Here are 10 insights that it provides about Ayumi:

1. She laughs a lot, and very heartily. The throw-your-head-back and laugh-out-loud kind that shows her neat pearlie whites.

2. She loves ice cream. Maybe it's the heat, but we see her first relishing a cone, then a rainbow-coloured ice ball. Even when shopping at a supermarket, she lingers at - no prizes for guessing - the ice cream section.

3. She eats roast chicken the good old KFC way, meaning she licks her fingers after devouring the chicken.

4. Like all Japanese girls, she also likes to pose with the V sign.

5. She is a Louis Vuitton fan. She has two LV tote bags, and the signature logo is also found on a pair of cropped pants that she dons with a matching jacket.

6. She doesn't mind being photographed without makeup, but only from a distance.

7. Sunglasses are her favourite fashion statement, and she loves them big and in dark shades.
8. She won't hesitate to flaunt her svelte body in bikinis and bra tops. The picture (left) shows her comparing abs with a guy, and hers definitely look taut.
9. She has a burly bodyguard who travels with her who is thrice her size. Sometimes he even carries her drinks for her.
10. She is no prima donna who sits still while her stylists fuss about her. She does her part too, like blow-drying her hair and applying lip gloss.
The limited edition of Ayumi's new album (miss)understood is out in stores. It costs about $25 and comes with a 16-track CD, a DVD comprising 10 music videos and six 'making-of' clips, and the pictorial booklet.

It's a really cute article, I like it.
Except that it was shot in Hawaii, not New York.
And, correct me if I'm wrong, but when she's at Safeway isn't she looking at soups, not ice cream?

Brittany 1st February 2006 10:58 PM

^Yup.

Ayu is looking at SOUP, LOL XD .. It even has a sign on the picture saying she gets $ taken off for buying a certain amount (Safeway club card, lol)

If I don't recall, it's frickin COLD in NY in October, so I think the writer didn't do a good job on finding the sources to where the book was shot. Only Hawaii, Cali or Florida would be so hot in the Fall.

i think i have read this
anyway many thx

Axel_Grease 3rd February 2006 12:20 AM

I've read this and thx for posting it. There's this picture where she's seen walking into the ice cream aisle, maybe that's what the article-writer person meant when they said she stopped near the ice cream. Hmm...that's where they put the beer too.

And this picture she's eating pineapple ice cream at the Dole Plantation right?

i have tried that soup, and it tastes awful. Or at least the Broccoli and Cheese Flavor. So here is one quasi Ayu-endorsed product you want to stay away from xD (This was before the photobook LOL).

Neo Daydream 4th February 2006 10:54 PM
