New Shakira single ft. Wyclef Jean- Hips Dont Lie

This song is a cover of Wyclef's "Dance Like This" that was featured on the Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights soundtrack (which was a great soundtrack by the way...)

But... it kind of sucks. haha. No it's a good dancing song, and it'll probably gain some popularity... but... ugh. As a Shakira fan, I'm not sure if I'll really be able to get into this. Maybe if I listen to it a bit more.

I can't share it, since, of course, it's available in the US, but we can still discuss this single. Anyone else heard it? Like it? Dislike it?

I've heard it, and I LOVE IT!! The first time I listened to it, I was like 'This sounds so familiar...', and then I realized 'Oh!! Dance Like This by Wyclef Jean!'. I LOVE the Dirty Dancing:Havana Nights soundtrack, and I LOVED the original 'Dance LIke This', but I thought this song surpassed the original.

I LOVE Shakira and I love any song by her!! She can make any song danceable!

I don't think this song was on her Oral Fixation Volume 2 CD, was it??

TeamAyu 18th February 2006 12:11 AM

Oh that's an awesome CD cover. I haven't heard of this!! I am so going to check it out and "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights" soundtrack. That reminds me... I still need to watch the movie HAHA

No, it wasn't on OF2... it was released for airplay the last few days :) I'm glad you like that soundtrack too!! One of my new favourite bands, Aterciopelados, is on it too, you know El Estuche?? I have this huge Spanish music obsession going on right now ^^

Good, your reaction to the song gave me faith that it might grow on me :P

TeamAyu: The movie and soundtrack are both soooooo good! I was expecting it to be corny but it was true to it's roots (lots of subtle and not so subtle references to the original dirty dancing). And the guy doent appear to be drop dea gorgeous at first glance, but he is sooooooooooooo sexy... lol.

I like this song , it's got a great reggaeton beat and there's not that much wyclef heard on it which is a good thing imo :P
It's definitely better than 'don't bother' which i just can't stand for some reason....

The single will be added to a re-released version of Oral Fixation vol. 2. UGH! I hate when artists do this! :ymad

Mad_Cactuar 18th February 2006 05:35 AM

^ I HATE IT TOO!!! I SHELLED OUT MONEY FOR IT!!!

*calms down*

I was so irritated when she did that. Its really annoying. No way I'm getting both versions, so I'll just see if the singles is available or something.

Not bad.. Weaker than La Tortura definitely. Don't Bother was better. Also not as rocking as Timor. Just... ok.

Indie 18th February 2006 06:19 AM

I've been listening to this song for the past couple of days, it's pretty catchy, though not anywhere near the quality of other shaki songs, BTW I don't know if most of you knew this but the sample used throughout the song is a sample from the song "Amores como el nuestro" by Jerry Rivera, which was an enormous salsa hit :)

I don't know how am I going to get this song now, I just bought the album a month ago because I didn't want to rush into buying it and then this happens :thud

GAWD THAT SUCKS! and they don't expect us to download the new song... HMPH! If they stop doing that maybe I'd go and buy it! Oh wells and Corybobory thanks for the info! I think I'm going to rent "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights" this weekend. :)

I like the song! its so catchy, and I love the Reggaeton music -- makes you wanna get up and dance!

Corybobory 21st February 2006 05:51 AM

I don't like the idea of re-releasing an album with bonus tracks :( The new OF2 will have La Tortura on it as well... I don't think I'll buy it unless there's some really cool cover art or something else neat about the CD like extras or concert footage or something.

I have to admit this song is growing on me though... haha... I didnt really care for the "Dance like this" song from Havana nights but now that I've listened to Shakira's version a few times I can't help but like it a bit... just cause it's been stuck in my head the last few days. I still think it's a pretty silly song though hehehe.

TeamAyu: did you rent the movie? Did you like it? *dances*

Indie: I didn't know that it was a sample from another song, thanks for the info :) Maybe I'll download it and see what it's like...

Nasty. I'm sooo not buying an album by her record company until the second single has been promoted. :grumpy

I suppose they did that because of the poor sales. Laundry Service sold 13 million, but Oral Fixation Vol.2 only managed over 400 000 copies to date.

OF2 was just released in the UK a week or two ago though, so sales will still be rising ^^ FO1 just released it's 3rd single "Dia de enero", and there have been rumours of releasing either Illegal or Timor off of OF2 next... I love both so either will do for me!

I agree with you MC, it's a low blow to rerelease it with extra goodies :( I'm not buying either.

well, apparently for those of us that already own the album there's a way to get Hips don't lie off her official site, I don't know how but an article about the song said so, I hope it's true. and if it is I guess this re-release won't have anything special on it.

anyone knows if La Tortura will be in spanish, english or spanglish like thaat clip that leaked a few months ago?

I hate that too!!! No way am I gonna spend 18 dollars for two extra songs!!! Thats when downloading comes in handy -shifty eyes- in fact i'm downloading it on Limewire right now!! hehe^____^

Ballerina_xXX 22nd February 2006 06:56 PM

OH, and BTW Oral Fixation 2 was not that great anyways. I expected more songs in more languages like in Oral Fixation 1. Well, not more languages but the use of more languages. Like in How Do You Do which was one of the only GREAT songs on that CD.

I'd say spanish... if it was English thay'd have probably mentioned it being 'The Turture' on the playlist... the Spanglish version didnt really rock my socks so I hope it's not that one...

That's cool about getting HDL off the site if we already have OF2... that makes me pleased.

Mad_Cactuar 22nd February 2006 08:53 PM

Oh, I think if indeed we can get Hips Don't Lie, its probably through the virtual club. I'm waiting for them to update the page. Its still the same. But it is a cool feature though, I wish all CDs had such content.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 16, 2006--Recent Grammy winner Shakira and Fugees frontman Wyclef Jean have a history of blending music and culture with their individual bodies of work. So it's no wonder that the outcome of their recent endeavor in the studio is a Latin inflected cross-cultural hip shaker entitled "Hips Don't Lie." The smash, which makes its way to radio across the world today, was recorded on the road in Miami, New York and Los Angeles over the last couple weeks. Next week, Shakira and Wyclef will complete a video for "Hips Don't Lie" which will debut in early March. Explaining the song's title, Shakira says her hips have always been an indication of a great song. "My hips tell me where and when I should move. And my hips don't lie -- my hips tell me the truth." "Hips Don't Lie" will become available on Oral Fixation Vol. 2 by March 28th. The song can also be sampled at Shakira's website www.Shakira.com. Fans who already own Oral Fixation Vol. 2 can also go to her website to find out how to acquire the song. Meanwhile, last year's successes continue to mount for Shakira. Her Spanish album Fijacion Oral vol. 1 just won the Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album Grammy Award and the album has surpassed over 3 million sales worldwide. The English companion album Oral Fixation, vol. 2 debuted at #5 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart making her second top 5 album of 2005 and Shakira the only artist ever to debut top 5 albums in English and Spanish in the same calendar year.
There, I think this article. If its true, Shakira will be my fave artiste ever. Mariah she didn't bother when she added "Don't Forget About Us"...

well you can tell the re-release of MIMI was just a greedy move, I mean the album had already sold a lot and they just wanted to keep banking on the "We Belong Together" formula. AT least the re-release of OF2 is planned to save the album from being a huge flop, they just want to lure those who were thinking of buy it when it first came out but never did.
