[article] She Ain't Pink, She's Mink

Excerpt:
Quote:

On the brink of topping the American Billboard Hot Dance Play Chart today is Mink, who is in the number two slot followed only by Coldplay's "Talk."

Other than the fact that Mink had enjoyed airplay in Japan, where she debuted, little had been known of her. However, the newcomer's song "Glory of Life" is one of the most played songs on the U.S. club scene. It turns out, though, that Mink is a 22-year-old Korean. She is currently signed with Japan's recording powerhouse Avex Trax.

According to a press release issued by Avex and distributed by local SM Entertainment Tuesday, Mink went to Japan in her early teens to study and landed a contract with Avex, one of the world's largest independent record labels in the world, after she sent in a demo tape.

An animal lover, Mink also said she would like to involve herself in the animal rights movement.

I have heard of Mink, but never really bothered to check out her songs. Seeing that she is also in the US, I'm more persuaded to find out about her.

ohsixthirty 28th March 2006 06:57 PM

i just bought her single for beautiful/one suitcase. lol. i'm so easily persuaded.

Halla 28th March 2006 08:59 PM

I think they're referring to the 'Glory of Life' remixes released in the US. They're good remixes :D

thanks for the article , nmskalmn :)

^yeah, i saw that single for sell on perfectbeat.com. i may go buy that soon too.

sexysaucestar 28th March 2006 09:16 PM

^ How much does the single cost?

elepop 28th March 2006 10:53 PM

Wow, I never knew she had such success in the US!

bulmasman 28th March 2006 11:36 PM

I hadn't heard of Mink before this, but i'm interested to check her out. I find it quite funny though how a lesser known artist can slip under the radar and gain some success in the West, yet a huge artist such as Hikki flops horribly (even though the album was good) heh.

^ It's usually easier to "expand" your fanbase overseas if you're not so well known. ^^;

Since when was avex an indie label? 0_o

sexysaucestar 31st March 2006 06:03 PM

^ beats me...o_o Maybe the people who wrote this article figured it was "indie" because they had never heard of it. :shrug

ame-no-koe 31st March 2006 07:13 PM

giza records has some indie stuff, they released aya kamiki's 2 minialbums as indie releases, but shortyly afterwards her major debut single came out "Communication Break" and now her second major single is coming out "Pierrot" i can upload the mini albums, the singles, or the pvs if you'd like.

its more for djs and stuff, so it doesn't even have a real cover or anything, more of just a cd in a jewel case, lol.

Halla 31st March 2006 08:13 PM

Avex is an independent label. it's not part of the big four labels that control like ~80 % of worlds music market (Sony , Universal , Warner & EMI).

same way as there are independent movies , it means they're movies which aren't produced by the big movie production companies.

sexysaucestar 31st March 2006 11:03 PM

^ Ah, okay, thanks for clearing that up. :)

Ryoko 1st April 2006 12:36 AM

Wow, that's great for her! Now I can get my friend into some more Asian music!
