What do you think of the new MV trend?
 

I just recently noticed that some new videos are having those UNCOOL

borders.....

instead of using black or white or other colors border for the vidoe they use a a video cut in half for the border instead of usign the original one-colored border..

umm... do you get what im saying? >_< its hard to explain but i hope you knwo what im talkign about

for example videos with VIDEO borders are
Beyonce - Check on It
Neyo - So sick of lvoe songs
LL cool j - control myself

and there's tons of it.. nowadays.. it thinks its goign to bea brand new trend for music videos

it makes my eyes confuse on what to look at.. and it makes the videos.. messy... i hope they dont stick with that kind of style very long....XD

So far I can only see it happening in r & B or hip hop videos... I can't see it catching on in other genres. If it does.. then I'm wrong lol

You mean they put other video in the background instead of making it just widescreen?

I think they maybe do it to prevent some tv stations broadcast the widescreen video in a "zoomed" mode, which is what some stations do.


Another musicvideo done that way is Gomenasai by T.a.T.u

i think i know what you're talking about...i've only seen beyonce's video with this, but it didn't bother me really. :shrug

it depends on the video, like LL Cool J's "control", irritates me, I had to edit the video myself, same thing with a kanye west video, it's a good thing I didn't like the song much.

others don't bother me, for example "check on it" it think the part with the pink curtains looks pretty neat.

btw I didn't notice that on tatu's video :S

THose 3 videos are all by the same director: Hype Williams.

yes...thats right...the videos with the borders are directed by the trend director HYPE (in most of the videos it is standing in the beginning after the artist name)

Oh..where they use a part of the video as a big chunk of border..Honestly, it makes the whole video confusing and ANNOYING to watch..Local Artists here are starting to get into that trend too..I hope nobody in J-Music do the same thing -_-..

It's particularly distinctive to Hype Williams however, so I don't quite know if you could call it a "trend" - it's more like his signature for this year.

I hate it, because it's a big distraction when there's stuff moving all over the screen. But not really a problem, since the videos with those borders so far have been all crap. Not the songs, mind you. I love Check On It.

You mean like on Kuu's WIND PV?

I freakin' hate it so much. Hype used to be a great director. Now because of those borders his stuff is annoying. On the other hand I've seen them show some of the videos with and without the borders. So I think there are like 2 versions. Most of the time I see them with the borders though.

^yeah, all those vids are made by that Hype WIlliams guy. Once or twice is interesting for a change, but every video of his with the same design is just annoying

You mean the bars at the top and bottom right that they put in when you watch widscreen vids on Standard screens? that are usually black, but they put in like somekind of pink, red, purple, etc swirly crap?

yeah, screencap is fine, but I thought ppl have no idea to get caps so I asked for youtube instead :sigh:
