The press release stated that "Mr Alan Tan's remark had directly affected the goodwill of our company's artist Hamasaki Ayumi, and had also directly affected the interest of the company. Therefore we reserve all right to legally pursuit the matter."
Avex stated in the press release that Alan lack the political intellenge and did not realise that his current status has direct conflict of interest with RTHK Radio's International Pop Music Award. The record company had also mentioned that listeners of the program have changes of being mislead with Alan Tan's remark, thus affecting Ayu's chance of winning the award. They had also invited Alan to Japan to watch Ayu's live performance. Source: Apple Daily (26 March 2003) |

Well, apparently Alan must have missed Ayu's Stadium Tour. Her vocal performance was fabulous there! I'm sad to read that someone is openly dissing her live performances but glad Avex is taking action for it. Go Avex! :thumbsup

Alan Tam was a very popular singer in hongkong in the 80's and he was at the event at the chinese-japanese concert when the quarrel happened between coco lee & ayu...
Alan Tam was saying that Ayu doesn't know how to sing, that she is always off key~ i really dun like him 'cus he's just bringin up old news again and again to bash ayu.... |
he's probably just trying to regain fame or popularity by bashing hers. :mad

ooo.... such conflict! But I still don't understand what Avex is doing about it... did all they do was point it out?? I don't get it... |
1. MING PAO DAILY, MARCH 26 2003, FILM AND TELEVISION OBSERVATIONS
APPRECIATING ALAN'S HONEST CRITICISM Alan Tam Wing Lun on a radio program criticized Japanese singer Ayumi Hamasaki (Bun Kei Bo), saying that she is off key on three out of four verses. He was very direct. The write appreciates Tam Wing Lun's public comments in recent years. When a person has nothing more to ask for he has reached a pinnacle. He no longer needs to sell other people, what he likes something he says so, when he does not he directly criticizes it. Each person has his or her freedom of speech. Everyone can disagree with what Tam Wing Lun says, but they should agree with his honesty. The criticism of Bun Kei Bo is not an empty shot. When Alan said she is off keys on three out of four verses, fans can refute if it is not a fact. http://www.geocities.com/tokyo/towers/2038/030320.txt |

Most Popular Is Necessarily The Best
Bun Kei Bo is the Year's Most Popular Japanese Female Singer. So what? When she is off key she is off key. Most Popular singer is not the best singer. Off key singers can remain popular. Fans may not necessarily worship them because of the singer's singing. Idol singers are trendy products that have been expertly packaged. What they are selling is not singing ability. Bun Kei Bo can throw a tantrum in public and be very gentle at other times. Obviously she cannot control her own emotions. Must Face Criticism For Ignoring Singing Abilities The writer understands these young idols who reached such a position at their young age, like Bun Kei Bo. Her record sales affect the record label's stock price. Psychologically she would have difficulty to find a balance. Record companies that cook up idols have to be responsible as well. Pushing only singer image and ignoring singing abilities will definitely lead to criticism. Singers can have many types. They can be idol singers and they can be substance singers. The ones who sing well do not necessarily sing well live. Some can only perform well in a studio. The writer feels, the ones who can be called singers should respect the industry as well as themselves. Respecting the industry means singing well or not has not as important as at least not frequently singing off key. Respecting themselves means proper control of emotions. Not being moody is a matter of politeness. As a young idol, losing emotional control in public is rude. Rare Honest Comments Artists do not have special rights. Those who do not respect themselves should accept criticism. Industry insiders rarely criticize directly in public other insiders because of identity awkwardness. Honest comments like Alan's is extremely rare in the business. Those so-called daring comments may have hidden agenda. Alan today no longer needs to promote himself. Conceivably what he says is from his heart. - KWOK HIN CHING |
