I guess it's okay as long as it doesn't go out of hand.

Thread that made me come to think about asking the question:
omfg, Gwen Stefani`s new album

I think an example of what they mean would be like having a space between each letter of a swear word. Intentionally misspelling a swear word would probably count as "creative swearing," too. I don't think "omfg" would count as that because it can also stand for "Oh my freaking gosh." Some abbreviations like that can be ambiguous. :yes

True, but it still made me wonder, because ffs can't be taken as very much else than something offensive, and I want to know about it... I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to use it :).

for freak's sake! sure it can! ;)

As acronyms aren't as blatent as other creative swears, I guess they're considered ok. I don't recall ever editing an 'omfg' etc before. They're not as POLITE as one could phrase their post... but I guess it's not really crossing the line.

I don't see anything really wrong about abbreviations. Now, as qwerty pointed out, if you intentionally misspell a curse word, then that's a bit more..obvious.

Thank you, I don't intend of using them, but I wanted to know what the staffs view on this was. Because in my eyes writing, say, ffs, really is a way of swearing, because I don't read ffs when I see ffs, I read for **** sake. Altough it's not as bad as actually writing **** in some other creative way.

I don't have a problem with it, I just wanted to know :).

hey, we have a "wtf" (:wtf) smiley here, so i doubt anyone has a problem with the abbreviations.

immel 5th September 2006 05:54 PM

Yeah, I don't think so either, especially as we also have this one:

:sarclap

Maybe it doesn't do what I think it looks like it's doing, but anyway :D.

Corybobory 5th September 2006 10:27 PM

^Hehe it's not, it's the 'index finger moved in a rotation around the side of the head' sign. It means '.....coo coo!!"

I was just about to mention that one; that's a prime example of how abbreviations probably isn't that big of a deal here. o_o
