Utada Hikaru and Ayu collaboration?

I was reading Utada Hikaru info on wikipedia and came across this bit:

Quote:

Rivalry

Utada Hikaru is commonly considered to be the direct rival of J-pop star, Ayumi Hamasaki, which caused intense debate between fans of both artists.

On March 28, 2001, Utada Hikaru and Ayumi Hamasaki came in direct competition. Utada's album Distance and Hamasaki's album A Best were released on the same day. Distance topped the charts for the first week while A Best was #2. The following week A Best hit #1 and Distance dropped to #3. At the end of the year, Distance and A Best were the top two highest selling albums of the year.

In an interview with Japanese TV station NTV, Ayumi Hamasaki explained that this rivalry made her feel terrible, but it was pushed by the record companies.[4] In protest, Ayumi Hamasaki, who has a very large degree of creative freedom, is depicted with a tear on her cheek on the cover of her A Best album. It is speculated that this protest is also the reason why she insisted on re-recording some of her old tracks that is featured on this album.
Then I saw this video on youtube. Utada and Ayu seemed to have a nice time and get along well, however I have no clue what it was about.

I think they both have a nice voice... anyway I'm wondering, what do you think, would Utada and Ayu ever collaborate? Cause they were said to be rivals, yet Ayu says the whole rivalry thing had been pushed by the record companies, and they seemed to get along fine on MS. So would this be a possibility in the future?

(Unless they already sang together once before, or Utada visited Ayuready? but I think she didn't...)

nah, i think the whole rivalry thing has been overblown completely. and the fact that they have released albums around the same time hasn't helped much. i think i remember that ayumi was pretty stressed about being forced into this rivalry around the time of a best as well. but no, i think its mostly just made up by the press.

Hey I read that too on wikipedia. I was reading Ayu`s bio on wikipedia yesterday and saw that.

immel 25th September 2006 10:05 PM

I could edit that page and make it say Utada and Ayu are going to marry next month.

How many forums do you think people would post that in? Would it make it to the Japanese news channels? I think so.

PrincessAyu 25th September 2006 10:08 PM

=_= I'm not saying I think they are gonna collaborate cause they seemingly got along well, I'm asking what you guys think. Or if you'd want them to, or not and why. -____________-

immel 25th September 2006 10:11 PM

They're under two different labels and it's the labels that are controlling what the artists do. Unless avex and Utadas record companies decide to do some kind of cooperative work/collaboration CD or something I don't think we'd see anything like it.

They seem to be pretty good friends though, they are both mature women, can't see any reason why they would not like eachother, can't really see any reason why they should especially like eachother either, apart from keeping up basic manners.

I think that Ayu and Utada aren't rivals, but I don't think that they're going to do a collaboration. They've definitly never been in the same position as Koda Kumi and Ayu!

Delirium-Zer0 26th September 2006 04:38 AM

I wish they'd do a collaboration to more actively demonstrate that they get along. It would shut up half the people who say "OMG ONE IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE OTHER CUZ THE OTHER SUCKS! blah blah blah". (The other half would get louder, going "CAN'T YOU HEAR HOW MUCH BETTER THE ONE I LIKE IS? You people have no taste who like the other one!" x_x

Mad_Cactuar 26th September 2006 05:40 AM

God no, I hope they never collaborate. Imagine if they both sang together, fans of one side would go 'OMFG THAT OTHER ***** RUINED THE SONG" or something similarly idiotic.

Besides, no matter how much I try, combining Ayu and Utada's vocals in my head never works. They'll be too noisy. Utada's ocassionally shrill voice coupled with Ayu's ocassionally old voice. Never.

It'd be nice if they composed and wrote for each other though. :) And do the background vocals for each other. That'd be so sweet.

That would be extremely hot, but of course, then that would mean Hikki would end up cheating on her hubby and that wouldn't be nice...

pbs1605 26th September 2006 06:05 AM

I would say that the rivialry is only from the press. The press dont seem to think many celebrities actually can get along.

norain 26th September 2006 06:13 AM

Hmm, they should collaborate, with a music video, and a huge hit single. Along with a mini-album of 5 songs, UTADA AYUMI...I like the sound of it already

evolusean 26th September 2006 06:22 AM

I don't think they'd ever collaborate, at least not in the sense of a vocal duet. Their styles are entirely different. If they did, it would probably be yet another promotional gimmick (the reverse of the previous one) on the part of their record companies. Although they may get along, I doubt either one of them would take it upon themselves to initiate an unnecessary collaboration.

As for that MS interview, it was very cute! Because Ayu lived in New York before her debut, and Hikki is from New York, the two of them were bonding, and talking about different parts of the city. Later, Hikki said she sometimes sings Ayu's songs at karaoke.

A collaboration between them two would sound awful, and terrible, in my opinion. Their voices don't mix, at all

Holly 26th September 2006 10:06 AM

I agree, their voices don't mix and they are from different record companies which makes it even more difficult.

AyuGAME 26th September 2006 01:18 PM

i believe it will be a HUGE phenomenon thing!!!!
i dont know how that can blend their voice but i think they can do it...

:roflmao

That's why I'm proud to be in Teammilkshake.

alternarist 26th September 2006 02:08 PM

i dont think they should collaborate. firstly, there will be a riot between ayu's and utada's fans. also, its really pointless to collaborate. both have different styles.. it will be weird to put both of them together....

darkswordz 26th September 2006 05:14 PM

having different style does not never means that they do not mix well ;) who knows, they may be able to rule the market again with this collaboration :D (maybe this single is such a crazy hit that ayu and hikki just regain their former glory :D)

Keishi 27th September 2006 11:34 AM
