When has Ayu's Voice...

When has Ayu's voice become so loooooooow??

I was watching her a-nation'06 performance of Boys & Girls..oh man, if not for her kawaii-ness, I don't think I could have managed to finish the whole thing. Her singing sounded like a she-man compared to her original studio version.

But when she performs JEWEL, it is obvious that she still has that anime-ish high voice in her, so why does she keep doing those she-man tones during lives...especially for her old songs? :irked It irks me to no end!

That said, I think she has the best stage charisma and presence in the whole of a-nation'06 :)

Her voice is just changing. I don't think she can help that she doesn't have that cutesy, really high-pitched voice anymore, but she still hits high notes [like you said, in JEWEL].

ohsixthirty 20th October 2006 08:07 PM

she's been gradually getting a little lower over time. i have to say, i 100% like it!

alternarist 20th October 2006 08:11 PM

well maybe its natural... she has been singing for 8 years!! previously, her voice was high pitched and powerful.. but now, her voice is low and SEXY!! but it can be quite manly at times.. :(

immel 20th October 2006 08:24 PM

It happens. In the beginning she barely had any vocal training at all, and she was just a teen. She had a pretty weak voice back then, it was squeaky and often irritating. She's gradually been evolving it over the years of singing, practiced and grown almost 10 years older, now she's a mature woman. Your voice is bound to change.

If you want some more exact date when it changed... around the release of Memorial address she started having a deeper voice, and she's been keeping it up through the following albums aswell as live performances.

amen. I can't stand her older voice, and sometimes in some songs her high notes still hurt my ears XD

yeah, she can hit some ear piercing notes.

i think i first noticed it lowering around the time of A BALLADS, on songs like RAINBOW and the new version of a song for xx.

alt.total-loser 20th October 2006 09:18 PM

Her low voice makes her sound professional. It's gorgeous.
But. I think it started to become a tiny bit lower in I am... and became more apparent in RAINBOW onwards.

immel 20th October 2006 09:23 PM

Yeah, well, the older she got the more we can notice it.

In a few years she'll sound like our very own j_nerd has predicted so neatly.

I thought Ayu's lower voice during About you in Arena Tour 2005 made the song better.

immel 20th October 2006 10:22 PM

I think it's pretty low already in the original version, but it's true she went even lower for the live and it was fantastic :).

I love the low voice, even when she does it for her earlier songs. It's like, compare a live of "Depend on you" from 1999 and one from more recent times, her voice really does sound so much better, and makes me enjoy the live more.

Well, for a-nation B&G she was jumping and running around and so she's probably exhausted. So can't blame her voice for being a little hoarse ;)

Echiko 21st October 2006 04:16 AM

Like everyone said, her voice has naturally gotten lower. I have a feeling in the recordings..they edit it so she sounds alittle higher. :/

Lol all I'm going to say is:

BECAUSE OF YOU @ CDL 05-06 WAS THE WORST. She sounded like a MAN!

Delirium-Zer0 21st October 2006 04:54 AM

I've never once thought ayu sounded like a man. I mean, Akiko Wada. That's all I gotta say. Come on people, grow EARS.

I 100% agree with immel. Alot of songs on A Song for XX are utterly unlistenable, especially when I have a headache already. No amount of Excedrin can protect me from "IIIchiban NIII IIIItaIIIIII" X_X

I love ayu, but seriously. eeew. She's flat in that song to begin with, the IIIII's just make it worse. x_x

I actually first noticed her voice deepening when the song "Duty" came out. The verses in that were a very pleasant surprise compared to some of the squeaky tones of the past. Several songs since then have impressed me, she's sounded more professional and more grown-up the longer her career has gone on.

I think this change in voice is very apparent when she TRIES to go for the cuter sounds. HONEY, Greatful days, and Beautiful Fighters are great examples. She sounds downright silly when singing like that ("HONEY" was done on purpose, but in any cute & sunny song, she still sounds awkward). She really needs to embrace the more adult sound, seeing as how that's where her voice is naturally going. Songs like Beautiful fighters need to just stop, really. She can do the pop songs like Startin' and STEP you that are harder, darker, rockier pop, since they're darker & lower sounding anyway. But the sunny stuff just isn't working for her anymore. And she needs her ballads to sound more like JEWEL, criminal, and other "dark" ballads like that... poppy ones like CAROLS just won't work for her anymore, not nearly as well as they used to anyway.

There must be something wrong with my ears...none of the A Song For XX originals pierced my ears ever LOL Neither does the original "kanariya". It seems to pierce everybody else's ears though :laugh

alt.total-loser 21st October 2006 05:07 AM

I never thought kanariya was as high as everyone makes it out to be, either...

Delirium-Zer0 21st October 2006 05:08 AM

kanariya never bugged me either. The "iii"'s are high-pitched, but not as... sharp, i guess? as some of the A Song for XX tracks.

extepan 21st October 2006 05:16 AM

i think her voice matured, and she uses less falsetto compared to before. especially compatred to ASFXX times.

I love Ayu's Deep Voice! It's sexy! The LIVE versions of Boys & Girls are so much better than the original. I can't even listen to the studio version because it is so diff. and I don't really like it...

I disagree completely. Beautiful Fighters is my favorite song released so far as of this year. I loved it and I also liked HONEY and Greatful Days isn't bad either... I love STEP you although but Startin' gets boring after a while. I think she needs more ballads like Moments!!
