French Music

Does anyone have recommendation for French music? I only know Aisha(spelling?) but I do not know others. I prefer dance-techno-trance musics, but not Daft Punk.

Any french music is good though, I rarely hear of any..

Mad_Cactuar 27th October 2006 10:55 AM

I very strongly recommend an artist called "Emilie Simon". She makes electronic music with an ambient feel on her latest album, Vegetal. Her music is really beautiful.

Mad_Cactuar 27th October 2006 11:09 AM

She's popular in France at least.

If you're trying LimeWire, your best bet is Johnny Depp's wifey. Vanessa Paradis. She's pretty famous.

That girl... what was her name, the one who does the Night Elf dance from World of Warcraft ... isn't she french?

Alizée? Yeah, that was it, a quick search for "night elf dance" on YouTube helped me. She's not a recommended listen, although I couldn't refrain from noticing her as 19 guys out of 32 persons in my class plays that game and talked _a lot_ about her, err.

It's pretty funny to watch the video though, if you know the dance.

Uhm, I really shouldn't be posting this link...

I'm uploading an Emilie Simon track anyway, just in case you can't find it anywhere. It's the first single from the new album and it's called 'Fleur De Saison'.

Alizée rocks!! Recommended songs: Moi.. Lolita, J'en ai marre

The song is that video that immel posted is "J'en ai marre"

I also think Marie-Élaine Thibert is really good too.. she's from Canada.. she has an awesome voice.. I recommend the song "Fille de Ville" or any of the lives, (they're all in limewire) from Star Académie.. the TV show like American Idol, which she won ;)

I also recommend Corneille.. he's not really techno-trance-anything but his lyrics are so awesome and he's really talented.. recommended songs: Seul au Monde, Parce qu'on vient de loin, Ce Soir

Here's the charts from Montréal:

Oh yeah, and if you live in Canada (or have the channel MuchMusic) you can watch French music videos at 10:00AM every weekday.. on Much

I'd like to recommend you Najoua Belyzel and especially her song "Je ferme les yeux" you can her video clip here http://youtube.com/watch?v=GdYnXbEdP_c

and Emilie Simon is a great artist too ^^

Oh, I like one of her songs too. I think the title is "In each of my silences" when translated. Know what song it is?

By general agreement of the people in my class who actually enjoyed looking at this video it was her looks that rocked, not her music.

:D

'Dans chacun de mes silences' :D That's a really beautiful song.. but Le Ciel est à Moi (The sky is mine) is much better imo.. the lyrics are just GORGEOUS.. I saw her perform it on Star Académie and I was like O_O.. It's so much more powerful..

Oh yeah, and she's not obscure here.. her album went 3x platinum in Canada!! I don't know how much it sold in France though..
It won the prize for Francophone Album of the Year at the 2005 Juno Awards (Canada's most famous music awards)

Vanessa Paradis <3.

You could also try (I haven't heard a lot of her stuff but a friend showed me her live tour) Mylene Farmer. She's supposed to be the french madonna/ayu. She is more pop. She still makes music, but a new more tranced up verison of her old hit "desenchanté" was made a hit here by Kate Ryan (actually I think it was a paneuropean hit, I've got that single. The original is also very good.

A singer who's more Hip-Popish that I found by chanse on the old WinMx (R.I.P.) Is Nadya. I could upload my favourite song of hers if you'd like. It's called "et c'est partir". I think she's canadian though.

MANAU!!!!! I just LOOOVEE manau!!! :D
Tout le monde (a besoin de tout les monde)
La Tribu de Dana

those are 2 awesome songs :D

French Music ? O.o

Humm... Don't REALLY like it, but it depends on what kind of Music are you looking for ?

I mean... If you want Variety, I would recomand Najoua Belyzel [Je ferme les yeux]
More R'nB, I think Leslie [L'envers de la terre] is the best!
Rock~R'nB music ? Then you should definitly listen to Nadiya [Roc]
And if you want classical~Ballads~ Music, humm... Amel Bent [Ne retiens pas tes larmes] or Lara Fabian [Immortelle]

Hope this helps ^^

Calogero! I really enjoy his music. It's all basically rock at the core, but he dabbles in hip-hop and dance. Beautiful voice, beautiful lyrics, beautiful and haunting melodies.

Of the songs I know (from various albums), I reccomend (in this order):

Si Seulement Je Pouvais Lui Manquer If Only He Could Miss Me
Face à la Mer (avec Passi) Facing the Sea (with Passi)
Tien An Men Tien An Men
Yalla Yalla
Devant Toi Before You
En Apesanteur In Zero-Gravity
Safe Sex Safe Sex

I love Mylene Farmer! :) Though she has this really creepy music video that involves... a lot of blood? I can't remember the title.

HELVENEUE 28th October 2006 02:54 AM

I love Kyo, but they may not be what you're looking for.

stardusties 28th October 2006 02:58 AM

^ me too!!! I can upload one of their albums for you if you want :)...they're kinda rock-ish though

qwerty 28th October 2006 03:10 AM

Try Élodie Frégé. La ceinture is absolutely lovely. :luv2

If you like Björk, you'll probably love Camille. She's the French Björk, and she's so awesome. :thumbsup

Although she doesn't sing fully in French (in fact, only a small amount of her songs are sung in French), Madeleine Peyroux sings some great light jazz music. :yes

I liked Slaï's La Dernière Danse. Very charming. :)

kaue_ 29th October 2006 02:05 AM

I'd recommend Louise Attaque! LOL
He's not popular among my friends (they say it's music for old people), but I love his stuff.

She apparantly has many quite creepy music videos. And to correct my former post; I ment Nadiya. =P Same as Love~ayu mentioned.
