The Official Jewel Thread

Not the stone, not the song... the singer! The buxom blonde folkster from Alaska, she of the famously crooked teeth and wry, pop-culture-referencing lyrics. Jewel Kilcher:

You may know her from the following songs:

Who Will Save Your Soul?
Foolish Games
You Were Meant for Me
Hands
Jupiter (Swallow the Moon)
Intuition
Again & Again

Any fans of her? Thoughts on her? Discuss. I'll start!

I love her voice - her lyrics bug at times, though. And honestly, I think This Way was not only her first good album, but her first GREAT one - and 0304 and Goodbye Alice in Wonderland were equally awesome. Joy: A Holiday Collection isn't bad either. Gorgeous packaging.

Serve the Ego = love.

You so tricked me but I love JEWEL and Hands. I love Hands so much cause it's one of the few songs that actualy make me feel something

I absolutely love Again and Again. The chorus is stunningly beautiful.

I love Again and again, saw it when it debuted on MTV and I just couldn't stop listening to it for the next week :laugh

Oh no, now I feel like listening to it again! *goes to dig for Alice album*

Damn, I so wanted to make this thread but AHS had to crash.

I fricking love her ever since 0304. Her old stuff is brilliant too, particularly the debut album songs. It's so natural-like. Like it was dug up from some forest or something.

Serve the Ego is GOLD I TELL YOU. Also, Morning Song, Standing Still, Hands, Enter From The East, Becoming, Goodbye Alice in Wonderland, Stephenville TX, 1000 Miles Away, 2 Become 1, Sweet Temptation, Stand, etc.

Her lyrics occasionally makes me cringe though. Like in Hands.

In the end, only kindness matter
In the end, only kindness matter

Ugh. I can't stand those lines.

Goodbye Alice In Wonderland is my favourite album, there's like zero bad tracks. Everything rocks. So darn underrated too.

I only really know older Jewel. I remember that when "You Were Meant For Me" came out, a friend and I would sing it the entire school bus ride home. I also love "Hands", and I feel like I was one of the few people who didn't scorn Jewel for releasing "Intuition".

Overall, I think she's wonderful. Cute and creative and expressive and just neat.

TeamAyu 22nd November 2006 10:54 AM

^ I didn't scorn Jewel for "Intuition" either, it had a message that most people were too blind to see. Plus "0304" is her best album yet!

I'm glad to have found a thread of hers in AHS. Anyone has listened to her album "Perfectly Clear"?

I HIGHLY agree. I personally think that 0304 is her best album as well. It's completely different from anything else she's done, but her voice and lyrics with that style of electro-pop went so well together. The entire album is great. And all the people who criticized the Intuition video probably didn't realize that she's dressed so provocatively on purpose. She's trying to get the message out there that these "skanky" artists need to follow their hearts and do what they feel is right, not what they're being told to do by their labels (i.e. dress provocatively).

Also, my favorite Jewel song of all time is Foolish Games. The entire song is just so beautifully sorrowful and haunting. I absolutely adore it and haven't ever gotten sick of it.

^ Foolish Games is :heart

Foolish Games is simply amazing. After so many years it still remains one of my favourite songs ever. Everything about it is beautiful.

After that one album that had Intuition on it (I can't remember what it was called) I lost interest. I really liked that album but then the newer ones just haven't appealed to me :shrug.
