How to beat Copy Control CDs?

Just last week I got a brand new 30gig mp3 player, to which I've been spending all my times ripping songs from CDs to the player. I am very dissapointed to find that a minority of my cds does not rip, due to the the CCCD implement: my RAINBOW, A BALLADS, two The Backhorn albums, ELT commonplace album, three Acidman albums, two Shiina Ringo albums, and my Cheri Aufheben all failed to rip.. I really need help! I've did my part as to support the artists that I listen to, and was just wondering if anyone here could help me find a way to upload the songs?

.. I remember back then, when the single Voyage was first introduced, some member suggested using a marker and draw around the edge of the cd(?), but I do not want to do that, lol. :headache

Strangely my Rainbow and A Ballads does not have any problems ripping and they're original OS editions. My Corinne Bailey Rae CD however just won't let me rip it. It wouldn't appear in RealPlayer or Winamp.

I'd also like to find out how.

It would depend on your disc drive, I've never had any problem ripping my Copy Protected discs. Maybe you could see if any of your friends have burners that could rip CCCD CDs.

Edit: I use CDex by the way.

I use MusicMatch Jukebox (a paid version), and I NEVER had any problems ripping a CCCD. All CCCD's show up on the ripper and I can rip directly. I recommend you to use MusicMatch Jukebox!

I haven't had any problems either, i use Easy CD-DA Extractor, highly recommended. But even with other ripping programs i've never had problems.

try using itunes? so far i dont have problems ripping original cds there

I use the CD burner drive in my brother's computer to rip from CCCD albums, it usually works fine, though for some reason it won't rip the last track.

Yeah, I definitely have not had trouble with iTunes ripping all my Japanese CDs. :shrug It works very well.

immel 27th November 2006 05:28 PM

^Is any of your Japanese CDs copy protected? They should have those large stickers on them saying "COPY CONTROL CD" with the Copy Control logo.

adpoyao, if you know what you are doing, try out Exact Audio Copy aka EAC. Easy CD-DA Extractor might work for you, too.

If you still get weird static sound and such in your rips it might be your CD drive.

adpoyao 27th November 2006 10:55 PM

thanks for all the suggestions, i will def try out the EAC. It's wierd, because my cdrom actually ripped just one of my many CCCDs, while with the others I have no luck. =/

A way to overcome some of the earliest Sony DRM's, back in 2002, was using a simple marker pen, and draw a line around the inner circle of the CD.

But it's an outdated method, and I never tried it myself so I can't confirm it personally. Not recommended if you're careful with your CDs, though ;).

Another method, for a little later models, is to hold the Shift key while inserting the CD in your CD drive. Who knows, you might have some luck trying it out. Never tried this one either, as I didn't have troubles with them.

what about Window Media player?

it had ripped every Copy Control cd for me too

alt.total-loser 28th November 2006 02:18 AM

There's actually a thread like about this somewhere that's really old can was bumped up in August I think. o__o They were discussing how to rip RAINBOW. One of the methods described was the one immel talked about with the marker, and the only other one I remember is using really old programs to rip stuff.

Not like I really know what I'm talking about so... =D

adpoyao 28th November 2006 09:15 AM

the shift key technique is by far very interesting- too bad it didn't work. I guess it is just my cdrom.

and marking my CDs is like scribbling on your favorite dress with a sharpie, lol.

Choyan 28th November 2006 09:47 AM

itunes rips them o-o

well not sure about the newer versions since I haven't ripped any Copyrighted disc in the past year XD
but yeah...itunes did work, and may still be XD weell....or should XD

immel 28th November 2006 12:55 PM

All CDs are copyrighted, copy protected is another thing, that's the lame try to prevents us from ripping them. SONY stopped creating Copy Protected CDs back in 2004, SONY being the mother of the project, the project died.

adpoyao 28th November 2006 07:41 PM

yeah, because the song still didn't hesitate to leak online regardless of the CCCD program that they implemented. If anything, it just caused pointless inconvinience for people.

ok, I have a question for copy control DVD's, has anyone ever tried DVD43 to beat them and if so, is it good?

edgefusion 21st March 2007 05:03 PM

I've ripped copy control CDs with iTunes before, I've never had any problems.

Beyond the Sea 21st March 2007 05:31 PM
