The Official Christmas Music Thread

Okay, it'll probably only be active for a short time annually (if it even lasts beyond this year). But since it is the holdiay season and everything... let's discuss Christmas music! From non-traditional songs with a Christmas theme or feel (No way to say, MeriKuri, Koibito ga SANTA CLAUS) to non-traditionals about the holidays (All Want for Christmas is You, Where Are You, Christmas?, Christmas in Jamaica), to the traditional tunes or standards, secular or not (O Holy Night, The Christmas Song - aka the one that starts "chestnuts roasting on an open fire..." - White Christmas, What Child is This?, Silent night, Frosty the Snowman, This Christmas, Sleigh Bells... oh, the list goes on) - to the various (and countless) covers of them, the artists or bands who've performed them...

This is the place, your one-stop shop to discuss Christmas music, worldwide, each year (if... someone revives the thread yearly).

Go for it!

Sarah Mclachlan has Wintersongs to celebrate Christmas, although the songs were pretty standard and ok at best.

Girls Aloud has "I Think We're Alone" now for their Christmas single this year and it's pretty awesome.

Jessica Simpson's Christmas album was also very enjoyable.

Oh yeah, traditional Xmas songs bore me.

The only one'e I like are Kylie Minogue's "Santa Baby" and the Mariah Christmas song. Well out of the one's that come to mind now.

I love christmas songs.

I bought the "Now X'mas 3" CD recently. I quite like "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and "Silver Bells," which isn't on that album.

For j-pop X'mas stuff? "Giant X'mas ~yuujou no RIBBON~" and "kibou no uta" by avex's mini-X'mas units are good.

Of course All I Want For Christmas Is You of Mariah Carey is already a classic. Every Year at Christmas time this sing comes back to charts and it was released in 1994!!! AMAZING!!!

My all time favorite traditoinal songs are Carol of the Bells, What Child Is This?, and White Christmas. My favorite non-traditional is Jingle Bell rock.

My favorite J-Pop Christmas song would probably be BoA's Meri Kuri and Morning Musume's Christmas 60's 2003 :D

It's a great song, probably my favourite pop Christmas song.

Echoed_Memories 16th December 2006 07:08 PM

I looooove Namie's White Light, Mariah's All I Want For Christmas Is You & Britney Spears's My Only Wish This Year!

Delirium-Zer0 20th December 2006 04:08 AM

The only pop christmas album I like is Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas", TOTAL classic.

I'm a bigger fan of the christmas CDs from Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller, Loreena McKennitt, and I have to admit I love the 12 Girls Band xmas album.

I do like Jpop Xmas stuff at the moment... Winter Bells by Kuraki Mai, itsuka no MERRY CHRISTMAS by B'z, Koibito ga Santa Claus by Yumi Matsutoya... that sorta stuff. ^_^

Grr. I actually love Christmas music, but being in Choir is driving me insane. Singing "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" 100 times - with subpar choreography! - will do that.

Weslicious 20th December 2006 09:35 AM

I've had my Girls Aloud Christmas disc playing non stop for a few days. Obviously they killed White Christmas but the rest is good fun.

I love the Jackson 5's Rockin Robin <3 I also, embarrassingly have Lolly's version

Terri 20th December 2006 03:18 PM

I like classic Christmas songs by people I've never heard before.

Christmas music is enjoyable when it's simple and you don't think too much about it, you just listen to it and sing along.

bulmasman 20th December 2006 07:09 PM

my favourite christmas song of all time is a non traditional one..

Merry Christmas Everybody by SLADE. Words can not describe how amazing it is :D

Dreamland 20th December 2006 07:37 PM

oh yes I forgot some

jackson 5: I saw mommy kissing santa clause is hot
whitney houston: who would imagine a king
the temptations: silent night
ashanti: chestnuts roasting on an open fire
luther vandross: this is christmas
luther vandross: every year every christmas

voltron 22nd December 2006 06:40 AM

Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas" album is just amazing. My favorite track is "All I Want For Christmas Is You" followed by a close second, "Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)." And her version of "Hark The Herald Angels Sing (In Excelsis Deo)" is breathtaking.

"White Christmas" has been a favorite of mine since I was very little.

And in terms of J-Pop, "itsuka no merry christmas" is great! And "shiroi koibitotachi" as sung by Ayu & Chemistry. :)

Joel 22nd December 2006 06:52 AM

I have a new one! :D

Perfume - Twinkle Snow Powdery Snow :D
