The most overused shots/ideas in Japanese music videos
 

1) closing eyes in slo-mo
2) opening eyes in slo-mo
3) tilting head downwards in slo-mo

I don't know about particular shots , but they definitely overuse certain locations. It's not rare to spot the same forest / concerthall / church / whatever in several different PV's by different artists.

I've seen a lot with someone sitting alone in a room. Is that a big thing in Japan?

well one thing they dun do.. is use those fast shoots as if there was an earthquake! with effects of blur and dark and light shots.

I mean they do.. everyone does.. but must of the time they are just plain images no CG or Visual effects. They would go with mor natural effects, like lightning and angles.

alot of people use american locations, i think...
or out-of-japan locations (ayu's bold and delicious/pride, fairyland, ai otsuka's frienger, etc. etc.)

Hmm ... walking around by themself / dancing by themselfs ^o^

ive noticed a lot of pv's in forests...genesis of next by globe, tenshi by kokia, gravity by luna sea, and lots and lots of others.

don't forget momo no hanabira, by ai otsuka

Kumi and Ayu make their nail art really obvious which can be annoying in slower songs.

And singing down at the ground.

People crying.

drama/movie/game scenes from the tie-in of the video.

I've seen the same place in several PVs. xDD Like the same mansion is used in Koda Kumi's Selfish PV and Yuna Ito's Stuck on you PV. Anddd... Maki Goto's Glass no pumps PV was filmed in the same place as BoA's My Name MV. =p

i think j-pv is pretty unique...

shots of flowers, slow-motion eye closing/opening, and i hate Kuu's ballad PVs when she has a tired face and touches herself with her over-decorated nails

I hate that, too.

But. A lot of them have those... stodgy shots of eyes opening and closing. It's so ew now. D:
