Asian jpop fans: So how is...?

How is jpop viewed in your countries (I'm talking about Singapore, Malaysia, Phillipines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc.) is jpop really mainstream, can you actually watch PVs on regular TV channels and radio, alongside with the artists from your country and western acts, or is it something that's very limited and the only way to watch or listen to them is by buying their albums, do you have domestic releases? (I know that Taiwan and Hong Kong do). So in general how is the jpop scene in your country?

Thank you for your answers in advance.

Singapore, we can find the pvs on cable tvs easily.
There will be CMS for the album release for ayu, kuu and BoA. in stores, there will be promotion, like playing their songs, pvs and displaying of posters.
then, on radio FM100.3, Sunday night, there is an hour dedicated to jpop and kpop songs.
The japanese albums are easily avaible in every part of Singapore. and jdoramas can be bought at regular DVD stores and are played on cable too.

there will be news about the japanese stars in local newspapers, radios and magazines.
i dare to say that for the majority of Singaporeans, even if you do not like J-pop, you will at least heard of the very popular artist, like our dearest Ayu-sama. Most aunties and uncles had heard of her name more then they knew hikki(which is quite as popular as ayu in other countries)

Well when i was in the Philippines last year, lets just say, i have NO idea why The Phills has rights to sell the OS versions of CD's when j-pop is like, not known there lol, i would go in the biggest music stores i could find, and search for j-pop but nope found nothing.

When i was in my Dad's local supermarket type thing, i herd a Tagalog version of Utada Hikaru's First Love, or at least a ripp off of it. I was like, "OMFG DAD!" lol.

and the saddest part is...the people here actually believe the stupid gossips....

remember a couple of months ago when there was an article saying ayu had sex disease? well, till this day, i already had AT LEAST 20 people telling me,'i thought she had sex disease coz she **** so many guys?'.
THIS is getting quite sickening(and tiring!).....i always end up brushing it away by saying it's just a stupid article. How i wish people will grow up and learn to tell the truth apart and use their brains.

Over Indonesia, you don't get to see it on the TV, but they are still widely available on local retailer shops. Some gets to be licensed so the price is much cheaper (with a bit lower printing quality and VCD substitute for DVD), some that don't still get to be imported in its original quality and high price (OS version, Japanese version rarely available). Don't expect to find anything other than Ayu, Kumi, Hikki, and Mika though. Although Core of Soul, ELT, and ayaka's CDs get to be imported here.

i dunno of anyone in new york who would know j-pop, besides myself and others on here who are from new york as well, lol. people in general would probbably only know utada hikaru from kingdom hearts. i actually even doubt they would know her, though. and probbably the chinese and korean ppl will know BoA. that's about it. no koda kumi, namie amuro, or anyone else i guess.

From what I see in Hong Kong, our local newspapers have coverage on some main Japanese popstars' news...

As for the music, usually, you'd have to order cable and watch certain music shows on music channels to catch a PV or two but they're usually either years old or months old. >_____< Ex. a few weeks ago, I was watching TVB's music cable channel and one of its show is for international music... I caught Hirai Ken's Kiss of Life and Ayu's Connected...

The availability of Japanese or even Korean music is pretty high because most music stores carry a pretty big variety these days. I live in Mongkok so I'm just a walk away from the newest CDs and stuff... We also usually have the CDs come out a few days earlier than the announced date. XD Pretty darn cool. <3

As for the United States... I live down in Texas so most authentic, foreign things are hard to come by, especially authentic Japanese CDs. >____< That's why I'm glad to be traveling back and forth every summer.
