Faye Wong (Chinese: 王菲; pinyin: Wáng Fēi) (born August 8, 1969 in Beijing) is a Chinese singer, songwriter, actress and model. She is an icon popular in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and to some extent in the West.

One of the most distinguished female vocalists in recent Chinese music history, her fan base has grown so large and devoted that media in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China often place the title tiānhòu (天后, literally Heavenly Queen) before her name, while Japanese fans call her "Diva of Asia". An intensely private artiste, she is one of the very few singers widely popular on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, despite her apparent nonchalance toward the media.

According to Guinness World Records, Faye Wong had sold 9.7 million copies of her albums as of March 2000, giving her the title of Best Selling Canto-Pop Female.

She has acted in several TV shows and films, most memorably in Wong Kar-wai's Chungking Express, a role that won her "Best Actress" award at the 1994 Stockholm International Film Festival, and in 2046. She is known to many Final Fantasy fans for her Final Fantasy VIII theme "Eyes On Me", and has also been the spokeswoman of brands such as Head & Shoulders shampoo and Pepsi-Cola. Faye Wong has also graced the covers of Vogue Taiwan, Elle and Marie Claire Hong Kong, and has had spreads in Japanese Elle and other major Asian Fashion magazines.

So I did a search and it turns out there is no official Faye Wong thread. And considering how much of an influential artist she is, I figured making a thread for her might be a good idea. Hopefully I'm not the only fan here. I'm sure most people have only heard Eyes On Me though. But anyways, here are my favorites of hers:

Albums:
1. Fable
2. Faye Wong (2001)
3. To Love
4. Love Only Strangers
5. Scenic Tour

Songs:
2. Eyes On Me

So does anyone else like her?

I don't actually. I know a site that has her entire discography up for download, however, the link to Separate Ways is actually defunct. I wanted to download it as well :(

And I love Eyes On Me as well. If you like that song Chandrachan then you should definitely check out some of her other stuff. Her most famous songs are ballads and slow, more acoustic kind of songs, but those aren't really my favorites. I like her more ambient, rock, or electronic style music the best. She does it so well and her voice is perfectly suited for it :D

Oh thanks for making the thread! When we talk about C-Pop, people tend to forget her which I think is pretty sad. My favorite song is 再见萤火虫. And what I like the most about her is how her songs are not generic unlike many popular artists nowadays. There's always a nice touch of pure quality.

Her voice can sounds so beautiful and soothing; I'm usually not a fan of ballads but I like hers.

But you have to register and then post in that thread before you can get the download links.

No problem. That's what I like about her the most as well. I just wish she would come out of her seclusion. Even if she doesn't though, it is her right to do so since she's never done music for anyone but herself really, with fans liking it as an extra boost for her (I don't find that rude though for some reason). So if she does come back, it will be because SHE wants to, and I certainly hope she does.

I'm bringing this thread back. :) It needs some love.

The latest Faye news is that she was recently reported (and confirmed by her manager Katie) as being several months pregnant.... however, more recent reports & photos confirm that she isn't. (How this happened is all conjecture.)

Also, Katie has confirmed that Faye is writing songs (most likely lyrics, but perhaps some compositions) for her first new album since 2003's "Jiang Ai". Originally it was reported that she'd begin recording when the baby was born, but now that the pregnancy is confirmed as being untrue, I'm not sure what the timeline is.

Also, songwriter/musician Zhang Ya Dong is releasing (or did release?) a CD that includes a new song with Faye's vocals. More details on that when they find them. :)

(most of this news & info is from wongfaye.org/forum ^^)

So I'm not sure if there's going to be any sort of physical release of it, but there's a compilation of all the songs she's performing on her current tour. The tracklist is:

“冬”:《雪中蓮》、《紅豆》、《乘客》、《又見炊煙》
“春”:《天使》、《懷念》、《矜持》、《我願意》、《傳奇》
“夏”:《將愛》、《開到荼靡》、《催眠》、《悶》、《再見螢火蟲》
“秋”:《天空》、《但願人長久》、《我愛你》、《人間》
“重生”:《寒武紀》、《新房客》、《彼岸花》、《香奈兒》

As you can see, the concert's divided up into 5 sections: Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Rebirth. I love that concept! Too bad there's no way I'll get to see it unless there's a DVD release. All her other concerts have come out on DVD, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

When I read about this compilation, I originally thought it was going to be either rerecorded or live versions of all the songs, but I downloaded it to see and unfortunately they're all the original version as far as I can tell. Regardless, I couldn't be happier that she's actually touring again. Hopefully it will inspire her to release a new album sometime.

P.S. It was funny to look at my first post in this thread. My favorite albums have all switched around and my favorite songs are almost completely different :laugh

This thread needs more love.

I love Faye's Cocteau Twins covers.

I'm studying in Shanghai and was supposed to go on a fieldtrip to one of her concerts, but it got canceled because tickets sold too fast and only the expensive ones were left. But I'm still kinda interested in what some good songs by her are?

pommy48 8th December 2010 01:56 AM

She looks so pretty ♥

There are sooooo many great songs. It depends on what you're looking for really. These are some of my absolute favorites though:

催眠 (Hypnosis)
(Wings of Light)
(Cambrian Age)
(1,000 Years of Sadness)
(Chanel)
(Farewell Firefly)
(Legend)
(Give Up Halfway)
Eyes On Me
(Idiot)
色誡
乘客

I put the English translated titles for the ones I know. The rest I only know the Chinese pronunciation. There are plenty more great songs, but those are probably the best of them for me. If you're looking for albums to try, I say go with 寓言 (Fable), 只愛陌生人 (Only Love Strangers), or 唱遊 (Scenic Tour) to start. Omfg I'll be so ridiculously jealous if you actually get to go to her concert.
