distinct ayu songs

Which ayu songs do you think have the most distinct sound?

Love Appears 5th February 2008 09:56 PM

Hm, the first song that comes to mind is Far away. It has very unique ambient noises in the background.

I've absolutely gotta mention end roll. The first time I listened to the song, I swear I thought my dog Milo was barking. "Shaddup Milo! I'm trying to listen to music!" Needless to say I felt pretty amused when I realized the background noise in the song just sounded like a barking doggie. :P

Also, too late. Harder to explain, but I've never heard a song like it. I always thought it slightly resembled Boys & Girls, except it sounds more distorted.

Other than that, I think Will is pretty unique. She has a certain quality and sound to her voice. I think it's similar to her voice in Scar. It depicts her as rather vulnerable and stripped of any pretension.

As far as entire song composition, SURREAL and kiss o' kill seemed very distinctive to me.

Evolution
Still Alone
Ourselves
Hanabi ~Episode II~
Rainbow
BOLDDDDDDDD & DELICIOUSSSSSSSSSS :D
Step You
Alterna
Beautiful Fighters
Kiss o' Kill

I'm not good at explaining things, so I won't :3

PrincessAyu 5th February 2008 10:06 PM

sorry, but what does distinct mean in songs? Like very quiet background sounds or? =/

Something that's "distinctive" just has a very unique quality, or a noticable trait or difference than the usual. It makes it stand out from other things of its type. :yes

ComatoseBunnySnatcher 5th February 2008 10:21 PM

^ Yeah.
not saying all ayu songs sound similar, but the ones that are so different that you noticed them right away!

i think ourselves, the GEO compositions, vogue, and too late are some.

Ooh also, the different version of WHATEVS.

ComatoseBunnySnatcher 5th February 2008 10:28 PM

I forgot to mention GIRLISH!
It's really different and catchy and orgasmic!

Well, it is catchy. :D

monochrome I think as well, the music is really unique (kinda sounds like they're banging metal pipes)

Raiu-Ayu 5th February 2008 10:39 PM

monochrome is pretty distinct, maybe not ayu distinct but it differently makes you sit up and take notice when it's playing.

Songs that are distinctive of ayu would be songs that sound like they are telling a story. You know music that just makes you right away think you could be watching a movie in your head. They always have a noticeable beginning, middle and end even without the lyrics. I'm not to sure how to explain it but its kinda like the music would be used over a narration of a short story or something. I get this with songs like M, momentum, Who..., Marionette, GAME, MY ALL and Mirror. I get it in a lot of songs but these are the main ones

This is what I love about Ayu. The way she tells a story in her songs. Many of her songs aren't just catchy verse, catchy chorus, rinse & repeat, etc. They actually lead up to something! Something meaningful, and you feel satisfied that you listened. Ayu makes the songs come alive, and those are the songs that make her who she is.

Raiu-Ayu 5th February 2008 11:03 PM

^EXACTLY!!! Thats why I get so pissed when ayu got #2 and Koda "I'll repeat my same old stuff" Koda gets #1!!! (Don't get me wrong love Ku but DAMN IT BE ORIGINAL!!)

That's why I love Talkin' 2 myself and marionette. I always feel like there's a story in there.

The most distinct, I think I'll say Surreal, Will, and Kiss O'Kill (I'm probably toss Alterna there somewhere). Bold&Delicious is different than all the other songs she's done, but it's not completely distinct as in it's very gospel-y.

:D

Songs that generally stand out from others for some reason or another:
Who...
ever free
SURREAL [structure]
M
NEVER EVER
everywhere nowhere
Real me
RAINBOW
ourselves
Bold&Delicious
criminal
Beautiful Day
Startin'
Born To Be..
Beautiful Fighters
kiss o' kill
(don't) Leave me alone

These just kinda... sound "different" from her discography somehow.

Chibi_Venus 6th February 2008 03:03 AM

I think most, if not all, of her songs have a distinct sound. :)

I do think all of her interludes and introductions are the most distinct.

A lot of her old words seems very unique, including And Then, monochrome, SURREAL, TO BE, and WHATEVER.

Others I feel are kind of distinct are kiss o' kill, M, Naturally, NEVER EVER, RAINBOW, and still alone, though I feel those may be just because of her, not sound (excluding Naturally and kiss o' kill).

Definites?

alterna
Bold & Delicious
flower garden
Free & Easy
INSPIRE
Ladies Night
Real me
until that Day...
WE WISH
Will

ImpactBreaker 6th February 2008 03:09 AM

"vogue" is actually one of her most unique songs. HANABI too.

CHE.R.RY 6th February 2008 03:28 AM

Off each album:

A Song for XX - A Song for XX
LOVEppears - and then
Duty - Duty, Far away, vogue
I am... - still alone, connected
Rainbow - Heartplace
Memorial Address - ourselves
My Story - CAROLS
(miss)understood - B&D, Ladies Night, alterna
Secret - Startin', It was
GUILTY - none

Yeah those are the songs that stick out the most to me.

TITANIC 6th February 2008 12:26 PM

M
monochrome
startin'
B&D
pride
kiss o' kill

waterballoon 6th February 2008 01:52 PM

Okay, I'm gonna list it according to albums so it'll be easier.

A Song For XX: Never heard the whole album before so I can only say A Song For XX. The rest that I heard are really J-Pop.

LOVEppears: Can I just say the whole album? But those that stand out the most... And Then, monochrome, LOVE ~refrain~, appears, End roll, WHATEVER, Who... and kanariya.

Duty: Duty, vogue, Far away, SURREAL

I am...: I am..., Naturally, still alone, M, no more words, Flower garden

RAINBOW: Free & Easy, Heartplace, HANABI, Dolls

Memorial address: ourselves, HANABI ~episode II~

MY STORY: Catcher In The Light, INSPIRE

(miss)understood: Bold & Delicious, Ladies Night, (miss)understood, alterna, In The Corner, Will, fairyland

Secret: 1 LOVE, It was, Born To Be..., Beautiful Fighters, kiss o' kill

GUILTY: Mirror, The Judgment Day, GUILTY (nope as in the song but as compared to the rest of the album!)
