[2008] kanariya thoughts
I know this is kind of random, considering this song is so old, but I thought it'd be kind of interesting to have a discussion about it since I can't find one about it.
What does everyone think of it (the song[s] and the PV)? Personally, I feel the song's tune itself lacks a little something and the PV is pretty ok, but I really love the lyrics. I'm absolutely in love with them. I think they're so much meaning behind them. Also, Ayu looks gorgeous in the PV. :P Does anyone have any sort of idea if there's any sort of meaning behind the PV? I think the fact that the little old lady has the black eye make-up is really cool. :P Your thoughts? |
Aw man, the whole song is so ***** and weird and all..
i don't really know the meaning, but i dont mind knowing :D the whole black makeup thing was weird too >_____> i never really thought too much about it >_> its just another weird ayu pv to me :P |
hahaz. I think we are some lazy people who don't think much about it. lolz.
yeah, it's jus weird to me too. People with the headphones looking around and Ayu lying there.... I also don't know what's going on. Anw I didn't see the lyrics so probably I don't find the link with the pv yet. I hope someone will come and anaylse this pv too. hehez. (Ayu certainly look nice in black.^_^) |
I remember a thread about this last year some time.
The PV is really weird, and I find it hard to understand what its meaning is, but "kanariya" means "canary" but the only bird in the PV is like, black, such as a raven or a crow. But the lyrics say: "The city is alive The people are restless The birds that fly into the night are already asleep..." The birds that fly into the night...? A bird associated with the night is either a raven or a crow, so that might explain the bird in the video. Canaries are mentioned in the lyrics: " It's not that the canaries whose voices were crushed to death couldn't cry." Canaries are birds, but here she's talking as if canaries were people, with feelings and things. And there's people looking quite sad and/or shocked in the videos: " I fear my dreams waking up My heart breaks I'm afraid to go." Maybe they're in fear? Black = night = fear = sorrow ...? Haha, I don't know, but that's all I can get out of watching the video. >_< |
pretty hot to see ayu cover in jewels :D
|
I love the PV! I don't know what the meaning behind it is though. I don't like the original song, but I love the remix. :heart
|
...Mmh i haven't put much thought into the song + pv tbh D:!
|
I think I'm the only ayu fan in the world who actually LOVES the original mix. XD
The PV is amazing, I love it. There's so much symbolization within it, and the song's lyrics are so deep and meaningful. <3 |
I think it's so high pitched that the original song isn't that good. But the remixes are great, and the lyrics are amazing.
The PV is okay. |
well i never concentrate listen to the song...
i just remember the high pitched of ayu's sound and the BG vocal... no comment |
hmmm...the song dun really attract my attention at all...same for the pv...but ayu with long black hair looks very pretty :D
|
I also dislike the original version, but the remixes are all pretty okay. I tend to forget this song is in her discography.

Haha that's really strange that this thread was made because I just recently watched the PV for "kanariya" on one of my DVDs! :P
I personally love this song and the PV. Both have that mysterious feel; I think the fact that it's very underrated (and mysterious to fans) also boost up my love for both the song and the PV. The lyrics indeed are quite special and the PV is fun to interpret and look at different interpretations. |
oh no..not again....
i think we need someone who is very very well versed in japanese literature and history and folklore to explain the whole point of the "canary" reference in this song. I am convinced it is referencing some well known story or something. not just random personification or allegory. until we have some one who knows what the canary reference might be, I think I'm gonna avoid all the random specualtion that is bound to ensue. latuz |

hehe. I'll ask my Japanese professors about it tomorrow and get back to you on that...they're all very well-read and are pretty much geniuses, so if they don't know anything about a canary story or something like that, then I'd say it's probably just ayu being creative with this one. |

This PV was so strange that I blocked it out of my memory after seeing it it. But I love the song <3~ I'm sure if it's Ayu, then there has to be some sort of bigger picture involved. |

This song (esp original version) is just extremely unique in ayu's discography. I've never heard another song from ayu similar to kanariya. (same to NEVER EVER, another unique one). To me, canary gives me an image that it is always an expensive pet to be kept in the cage by its owner. So practically it's pretty yet lonely... being captured inside a cage forever... No freedom at all. I didn't read the lyrics of kanariya, so I dunno if there's any real connection to that golden bird at all.. :P. |
