2008: Sol-Angel And The Hadley St. Dreams
In late 2007, while being in the studio, recording her second album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, Knowles signed a new record deal with Geffen Records. Heading into a new musical direction with elements of "modern twist on hip-hop and R&B flecked with tinges of blues and jazz," the album includes production by Cee-Lo Green, Soulshock & Karlin, Polow da Don and Mark Ronson. The music video for its first single, The Neptunes-produced "I Decided" was shot in April 2008, and premiered on June 4, 2008 on BET's Access Granted. So far, the single has reached the top of the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Sales and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Sales charts.

For the UK & European release, Solange worked with British producers Freemasons, who previously worked on remixes for Beyonce & Kelly Rowland, to create "I Decided, Part 2". This version will be released August 11th, with the album following on August 18th in the UK and the 26th elsewhere.

Solange recently announced, via her blog, that she will be releasing a series of mixtapes, to coincide with the album. The first mixtape, titled "I Can't Get Clearance", includes the recently leaked track "**** The Industry (Signed Sincerly)". On this record, Knowles expresses her views on the current state of the music industry. The track name checks some major artists such as Mary J. Blige, Ashanti, Keyshia Cole, and sister Beyonce Knowles, although on her blog, she clearly stated that the song does not have "a negative light to any of the artist."

I like "I Decided Part 2" a lot <3 I've not listened to the rest of her album much, though.

Re:★ 22nd August 2008 05:42 PM

^ You should listen to the album, it's pretty amazing. :3 My favourites tracks are Would've Been The One, Sandcastle Disco, I Decided 1&2, Cosmic Journey and Valentine's Day. :heart

I listened to her album Solo Star but it was quite boring. =x

Hopefully Solange won't get discouraged because her album's at 110 in the UK mid-weeks and not make another album for five years again like what happened when her first album tanked. :(

It's a shame she'll always live under Beyonce's shadow even though Sol-Angel totally tops B'Day~

I REALLY want to try her out. Mostly because her music sounds a lot more interesting than Beyonce's. Plus her fashion style is so interesting and fresh, I love it. :heart

I decided part 2 is pretty much amazing (haven't heard any of the other tracks), so I'm excited for the whole album.

wow, she's kind of a *****, lolz...

Re:★ 31st August 2008 06:12 PM

^ I stand by Solange! Fox was out of order by wanting to ask about Jay-Z and Beyonce instead of the album. Then the next day Fox tried save their own skin by hating on her and making her look like she was in the wrong. I hate all these never ending comparisons to Bey, clearing Sol's the better musician. :/

^ OH wow! >_<

Anyway, I do like her two singles from her new album. Some of her outfits are absolutely hideous in Sandcastle, what was she thinking haha.

I do think it must suck for her to constantly be compared to Beyonce, but I think it's ironic that she called the reported unprofessional, yet she acts like that on live tv. it kind of puts me off of her, tbh. she also acted a bit rude on GMTV a few weeks ago.

I like I Decide!

I think her new album is really good, I really like all the old school elements & the production is just very well executed.

it's a shame really that Solange herself is just so unlikeable. the bigger deal you make about the comparisons between her & Beyonce the more people are going to pay attention to it. plenty of celeb siblings get the chance in the limelight just because of their prettier & more talented sister/brother, and Solange is definitely one of them & she just needs to deal with it.

lol @ the pic, could she try any harder to be ~different & edgy~? :o

Did you watch the interview? They DIDN'T ask about Beyonce or Jay-Z and what she was getting smart about to the interviewer wasn't live and the interviewer didn't say it.

And if you listen carefully, she just told the world Beyonce and Jay-Z are married because she called him her "brother in law" and those two haven't admitted to anyone they have married.

Ehhh, aside from her horrible attitude, I've heard one song and it is OK.

jaykay!

It sort of sucks that her album is flopping so far, I liked it way better than solo star. Isn't I Decided in the UK top 30 right now? Why is her album doing so bad there @-@

Kaiouforever 3rd September 2008 12:31 AM

Solange is a horrible singer, but her album is a lot more diverse and fun than Beyonce's "B-day" imo, and I Decided was an awesome video. Even if she wants to not be compared to her sister, she should have said so in a less aggressive way I think, but I doubt it'll affect her that much, since no one is really aware of her new album anyway. =[

CoriKaru 3rd September 2008 02:40 AM

I heard Solange perform on "Good Morning America" the other morning and the song sucked and the performance sucked, but her voice sounded decent enough.

Overall. I don't like her or her music. Ugh. She has an annoying look as well. She needs to do what Ashley Simpson did and get that grill fixed up. Ha.

dddaiyamondo 3rd September 2008 04:24 AM

i hate to admit it but her new album is growin' on me...

Wow! Wutta *****. Oh, yes like mentioning your sista will sink your already sunked career. I'm definitely not giving her crap another try again now. I Decided wasn't that good anyway and video was very ugly and so was she. =/ I feel sorry for that reporter because Solange was in the wrong for that especially on live tv. What she did was very unprofessional (she was even sitting unprofessionally) and if she had a problem, she should have did a professional move and told the lady after the interview was over or just ignored the whole Jay-Z/Beyonce part. Besides, the report just said she was steppin' out from her sister's shadow. Wut was wrong with that? If it wasn't for Beyonce, no one would even know who the hell Solange is. It's hard to get outta ur sister's shadow. Ashley and Jamie Lynn had that same type of problem and both got use to it and still got big careers especially Ashley. She's sold more records and had more #1s than Jesscia. :laugh Sad but funny! So she needs to get over herself and stop kidding herself and face the facts that she'll be compared to her sister (who is still big as hell in the music industry) for a very long time now.

With any luck, Solange won't be here for that long.

No Comparison (She Wins), No Career (We Win).

I don't like her that much, but she debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200...good for her.
