Princesses Preen in a Pauper Economy (Ayu mentioned)

Ayu was mentioned in a new Time magazine article. Sorry if this was posted already.

Excerpt:
Quote:

Hime-kei appears to have been inspired by American filmmaker Sofia Coppola's movie Marie Antoinette, with its lush rendering of the decadence of the court of Louis XVI. The rush of young Japanese women to emulate the look of 18th-century French aristocrats has grown from a fad into something of a movement, whose leader is the popular singer Ayumi Hamasaki.
I don't really think that's correct though :yconfused

lol, well ayu with her blond hair and poofy dresses~
though don't think she started the movement, she may have helped it a bit, since she's always setting trends

but hime-kei was here long before that Marie Antoinette movie?

Ayu does LOTS of hime kei relatable things, MY STORY tour, MY STORY Classical cover, tons of her dresses in lives... QUite a number of her PV costumes look right too ven if the set is not in a castle. Ayu does it naturally more than fetishy like the most extreme fans of this genre though.

Ayu really is wearing 18th-century-dresses a lot and she looks amazing in them(i love the AT05 Happy Ending dress for example) so it might be true^^

~Tsubasa~ 5th February 2009 04:26 PM

Kazeyomi 5th February 2009 04:32 PM

Uhm, well she looks like a princess sometimes. Maybe not like this

http://www.jafca.org/TokyoNewTribe/hime/photo/00042.jpg

but in some of her cover's art, photobooks, photoshoots and lives she has pink, girly, princess dresses and things XD

yoshino 6th February 2009 07:23 AM

nv thought Ayu is related to Hime-kei. hahaz. but yeah, HAPPY ENDING in AT05 says it.

When has this trend started? I wonder..

asmAyumi1992 6th February 2009 09:56 AM

AYU IS HIME-KEI!!!

ayu_ready? 6th February 2009 07:39 PM

that's absolutely non-true

hime fashion started long times ago along with lolita fashion
and there's no way Ayumi or this film could influence it now
it deprieved mostly from anime & Harajuku stylo I believe
I think this fashion is more than 5 yrs

ridiculous:shakehead
