a J-pop song cover for to an audience new to J-pop
 

So, my school is having this event .. and me and my class are doing a culture music thingy .. I got the Japanese girl role obviously .. and since I can't get a Kimono or a Yukata .. Im gonna wear an outfit that represents the "Modern Japanese teenage girl" (the outfit will be inspired from a J-Fashion magazine) .. and im gonna sing .. Im having trouble with the song choice,
should I do Ayu's GREEN .. since it has an oriental feeling ?
or a J-Poppish song like the Hello! Project material ? or something else ?

Im really confused at the moment .. any help will be appreciated =)

If you want something more "modern" I think it would be interesting to pick a more jpoppish song... But I wouldn't say Hello! Project materal...most of their followers in Japan are old men and otakus that like cute young virgin girls @___@ That's why they don't have manny hits...

I wouldn't pick a ballad either... most of them aren't that different from pop ballads in any place on earth^^

they used to have a large amount of girl fans/non male wota fans but then they screwed everything up. R.I.P. H!P :weep

if u want to do an H!P song i would look at the soloists first. it's usually awkward when one person sings a song meant for a group.

hitomi has a song called japanese girl and the lyrics is talking about modern japanese girl XD maybe you can do that with a slideshow of the lyrics XD

er, I don't think so XD singing a song like juicy in a public school event is suicidal XDD plus, my voice doesn't suit it so ..

^ I think that song is too long and slow. It would get really boring for the audience, particularly since they're not interested in jpop to being with.

I would avoid H!P or any of those other girl bands altogether anyways, since that is not the kind of music your average non-jpop fan wants to hear. :/

Perhaps a song like ayaka's "Real voice" then? It's a fun song to sing and I'm pretty sure the audience will love it. I would suggest something like that more than an Ayu song. But if you want something from Ayu, I would go with "independent" maybe.

my English teacher (she's helping us with the show) listened to my singing, I did Hikki's Keep Tryin', Ayu's BLUE BIRD, hitomi's LOVE 2000, and Younha's Houki Boshi .. she said that im good ! (YAY !) but she thought that Houki Boshi was the best, coz I performed it perfectly .. and with the instrumentals only ~
too bad I didn't get to use any of the songs that you guys mentioned T_T"
