Music Station: The highest number of appearances by an artist

I just watched Music Station's 1,000th episode and they listed which artists have been on the show the most. The years are to show how many years it has taken the artist to get that many appearances. I mostly just wanted to post these totals because of the insane number of appearances by Hikaru Genji - I basically spit out my drink while watching! lol.

Women Top 10:

10. Dreams Come True - 43 (1988 - 2008)
tie - Matsuda Seiko - 43 (1987 - 2002)
9. Aiko - 44 (1999 - 2009)
7. Oginome Yoko - 46 (1986 - 1993)
tie - Every Little Thing - 46 (1996 - 2009)
6. Nakamori Akina - 54 (1986 - 1996)
5. Morning Musume - 60 (1997 -2009)
4. Amuro Namie - 63 (1995 - 2007)
3. Kudo Shizuka - 73 (1988 - 2005)
2. Hamasaki Ayumi - 76 (1998 - 2009)
1. Moritaka Chisato - 78 (1988 - 1999)

Ayumi will soon have the most times on Music Station for women.

Men Top 10:

10. L'arc en Ciel - 48 (1995 - 2009)
9. Shonentai - 53 (1986 - 1990)
8. Kondo Masahiko - 59 (1986 - 1998)
7. GLAY - 66 (1994 - 2009)
6. Arashi - 75 (1999 - 2009)
5. Kinki Kids - 93 (1997 - 2009)
3. V6 - 105 (1995 - 2009)
Tie. SMAP - 105 (1991 - 2009)
2. TOKIO - 116 (1994 - 2009)
1. Hikaru Genji - 233 (1987 - 1995)

lol. 233 times in 8 years. Don't see that getting passed. :)

Strangely they didn't list number 8 for women or number 4 for men. Not sure why. At first I thought number 8 might be Noriko Sakai, but I'm not sure who on the mens list would get left out.

Hikaru GENJI were regulars on the show. E.g. in 1988, they appeared on 46 out of 49 episodes.
Johnny's Entertainment "controls" the show anyway, eight of the the top ten male acts above are or were part of JE.

Is it possible they didn't want to show Noriko because of that drug tragedy?>< gosh...

Zemus 27th January 2010 01:04 PM

Sakai Noriko / 18 times

No, they simply didn't show Noriko because she didn't appear on MSta often enough. :) As for "missing" ranking positions, that is not the case, because there are two tied at number seven. There was no need to list the eight now.

It's OK, I usually spam the Music Station thread in the Japan section of AHS. :laugh

I thought it was because of the ties too, but it seemed weird because both number 10 and number 7 were tied - shouldn't that mean that number 9 and number 6 get skipped? Or they just do their ties really weirdly, haha.

JackieRos 27th January 2010 10:01 PM

holy crap she must be popular

Some people count like that on rankings... if there is a tie, there are 2 on the same place (or more) and the next spot is left like the tied names took it^^

SunshineSlayer 28th January 2010 03:06 AM

^ Yeah, I realized that, but the way they did the ties looks strange. The omissions are because of the ties, just the way they did the ties is confusing.

Andrenekoi 28th January 2010 06:22 AM

Just noticed... besides Glay and L'arc, everyone on males' list is Johnny's xD

SunshineSlayer 28th January 2010 06:31 AM

^ There are lots of non-Johnny's in 25-11. But yeah, even I wasn't expecting anyone to have over 100 appearances. Just shows how crazy the Johnny's boys are always working. I don't know if Johnny's ent has a special relationship with Mstay or if just simply Johnny demands more work from the people in his company than other companies do.

Andrenekoi 28th January 2010 06:35 AM

^I was happy that the first place for males (and overall) was a solo guy, searched for him on wikipedia and discovered it's another boyband... how naive of me xD

SunshineSlayer 28th January 2010 06:37 AM

^lol. Yes, Hikaru Genji is one of the most well known Johnny's groups of all time in Japan.
