We are the World 25 remake

So they aired the remake of "We Are the World" for Haiti before the Olympic opening ceremony... and man, to say it sucked would be an understatement! They only aired footage of Michael and Janet for 5 seconds, if that, and they butchered most of the song with all sorts of rapping from Kanye and will.i.am. I also recognized no one from the original in the group, except maybe Lionel Richie, but I think he was directing everyone.

Michael would NEVER have let this crap be released if he was still alive.

Did anybody else see it? It just aired not too long ago, so I don't think it'll be on YT yet.

It was all right... I wouldn't say it completely sucked. The opeing cerimony its self was quite nice.. and the composition near the end where there were fake mountians with snowboarders, skiiers, speed skaters, etc... that composition was wonderful. (honestly I felt it was better than Most of CREA's compositions).

4minute Girl 13th February 2010 09:35 AM

It had two of my favorite artists in it (Celine Dion and Justin Beiber) I loved it
Your attitude towards this is very rude and it's not necessary either. :mad
it's the thought that counts, stop bashing helpless people who are just trying to do something good for the world. You don't even know Michael at all if you would say "Michael would NEVER have let this crap be released if he was still alive." he was a good person and would do anything to help the less fortunate.

I didn't like it but that won't stop me from buying it because it's for charity~

Amrai-chan 13th February 2010 10:31 PM

I saw it on youtube and then a few minutes ago on TV.

Michael was the kind of guy who would bend over backwards for people.

If it wasn't for charity I would agree because musically minus a few parts it was mess.

There were a few people in there who can sing.

I think the song will work with younger people and hopefully it will get some donations to Hati.

I'd rather donate some other way but at least the song is for a good cause.

I haven't seen it but I saw the list of artists. This is not supposed to be good musically, it's supposed to have as many succesful(right now) artists as possible so all their fans buy it and support Haiti. I see nothing wrong with it being bad or sucking or whatever it is.

You're misunderstanding. I'm all for helping Haiti and am glad they're doing something like this. But I'm saying, that with all those artists together in one room, I would think they would have come up with something better, if not equal to the original song that came out 25 years ago. Even though it's for charity, people still have to want to buy and listen to the song too. And I'm sorry, but it was a complete and utter piece of crap, and whether it was for charity or not, Michael would've never put something this bad out there. THAT'S what I meant.

And as far as those celebrities being helpless... well, hopefully I was the one who misunderstood you there.

I got the song from iTunes before I saw (part of) the video before the Olympics Opening Ceremony... and I was disappointed. I'm a big fan of the original version, and I was excited that this version had quite a few artists I like in it. The beginning of the song was pretty good, but then it falls apart with the heavily auto-tuned singers and the rap section. >_<

i saw a fuller version of the song before the olympics this morning is it that in the rapping part they had something sort of blocked out to be clean. . .there was something like that. . .that disappointed me

i realize that the purpose is to gain money (who in their right mind would give lil wayne a part like that). . .not make good music. . .considering like half the people there have the most simplistic voices in the current mainstream music industry. . .like compared to celine dion they were not so good. . .all i hope is that haiti gets money. its a simple song made for a great cause

I agree @_@

Aww, don't hate on will.i.am. I understand the extreme hip-hop qualities of this remake may irritate some people, and in some places it did me, but will.i.am is better than any other hip-hop doofus they featured on it. Remember "Where is the Love?"?

Anyway, I wasn't too dazzled by this rendition either. I could've done without Miley Cyrus and some other people. All in all, the original is best.

Mirai Noah 15th February 2010 06:17 PM

^ I love "Where is the Love" but I didn't like the rap section that was added to "We Are the World." It doesn't flow with the rest of the song to me :shrug

Coelacanth 15th February 2010 07:54 PM

I completely agree with tasking. Mike rollin' in his grave right now. An atrocious rendition of an otherwise beautiful song. I'm sure they meant well, but musically.. c'mon now. Autotune, really? And then you got "classy" artists like Bennett and Streisand up in there like COMPLETELY out of place. At least make the rendition consistent...

I love "urban" music but there's times where it's really just not appropriate. "We Are The World" is a song that today's R&B/urban artists shouldn't be anywhere near. Especially when in the original you have brilliant black artists like Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Diana Ross, James Ingram, Tina Turner, etc. etc.

It really makes me sad. Forget about the trends and make good music, dammit. Watch the making of the original "We Are The World" and you'll see just how much work was put into it.

GRACE 15th February 2010 08:40 PM

imo, if Michael was alive he wouldn't have let this be the version released, he would have done it differently, and you know, good. Maybe they would have even written a new song

AyUta 16th February 2010 01:44 AM

Just read that Jay-Z didn't like the fact that it was re-recorded into a different version. He would rather no one have touched it.

tokyoxjapanxfan 21st February 2010 12:27 PM

i don't mind the new version per se, but the rap part, and wyclef jean's yodeling, is horrible :(

i don't have anything against rap, but i don't think it belongs in this song.

TITANIC 21st February 2010 01:17 PM

bcause of this it jumped back to #2 billboard chart...
