As for Ayu's carrer...

(2001) A BEST in it's first week sold 2,870,000 copies.
(2003) A BALLADS in it's first week sold 560,000 copies.
(2007) A BEST in it's first week sold 945,000 (470,000 aprox. for each one)

So it's doing well but not excellent
