fated is not about herself. It's for the movie, so it has themes regarding "being close" to someone who you once thought was far. Personally, I think that Ayu's just gotten into a writer's block as of late. She's expected to release amazing material, and she does so, but most, if not all the themes that she cares about have been done already. She doesn't need to write about new stuff that isn't in her best interests, right? After 30-40 songs in the last two years, I'm sure she's burnt out lyrically in some aspects [personal experiences, and so on..]
If you're tired of her "formulaic releases", then I don't think that you'll be "awake" any time soon. This method of releasing works, because at the time, the songs are relevant and make sense for the time period. People can celebrate and dance to her summer songs and sob to her wintry ballads. She even did this back in the peak of her career, there's just not as much material out there as before [less than 3 singles now.. compared to like 4 then.]~
AND there's a huge lack of CREA involvement. :<
