Shuya is also the one who getsn all the dancing solos. But instead of thinking there is something between the two I have come up with a better explanation (although I'm sure there are plenty of other people who have thought of this):
Shuya is clearly the most capable of Ayu's dancers. Think about it. With all the control that Ayu has when it comes to all her productions, she clearly picks whoever does best.
Also, saying that all the dancers live for the moment that Ayu says their name is totally unrealistic. They are professional dancers and get paid to do a good job. And saying that it is pathetic is giving the dancers way too little credit.
