It sounds is if her hearing loss was already pretty deep. I think she still had hopes to recover it though, but they ended when she made her last appointment in 2007.

Yeah, I think that it already was pretty bad [I think most fans at the time probably said, "We'll listen! WE'LL BE YOUR LEFT EAR" when they saw the documentary initially to her in her BBS and stuff]..
I think that when it totally went away, she definitely noticed it, so it probably made a big difference to her. :/ If it was already so bad in 2001/2004, I don't think that she would've noticed if it were gone forever [if it were already at such a state..]. It seems to me like RAINBOW was the album where she was still getting used to her ear, and Memorial address after that showed that she was used to it.
