I think Ayu is probably on the same level as Madonna..

Had any other J-artist that isn't like, Mr. Children or B'z or anything gotten some sort of ailment, I don't think it'd travel further than Japan.

It seems like it's because it's an uproar all around the world [USA, UK, China, etc..]..
